Warren Steinley

Warren Steinley MP is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 2011 election.[2] He represented the electoral district of Regina Walsh Acres as a member of the Saskatchewan Party caucus. Steinley was elected in the constituency of Regina—Lewvan for the Conservative Party of Canada in the 2019 federal election.

2019 federal election

Steinley resigned his seat on September 11, 2019, the same day the Writs of election were issued for the 2019 Canadian federal election. Saskatchewan's Premier Scott Moe subsequently indicated that (pursuant to that The Legislative Assembly Act) a by-election would not be held to fill the resulting vacancy in the Legislature. He argued that it was in order to save taxpayers approximately $700,000 in by-election expenses, and due to the proximity to the upcoming 2020 Saskatchewan provincial election.[3]

Steinley received almost 53% of the vote on election day and serves as the MP for Regina—Lewvan. During the election campaign, it was discovered that Steinley had been convicted of drunk driving when he was 19 years old. Because he was pardoned for the offense, the Saskatchewan Party omitted Steinley from a 2016 list of their candidates who had prior drunk driving convictions.[4]
