Vila Real (Olivença)

Villarreal (Spanish) or Vila Real (Portuguese) is a village located on the Guadiana river on the disputed section of the Portugal–Spain border, in front of the fortified villages of Juromenha and Alandroal. Historically it belonged not as now to Olivenza, but to Juromenha, and was called Aldeia da Ribeira. With the usurpation of Olivenza, up to the edge of the Gaudiana, the town was annexed by Spain, and incorporated into the municipality of Olivenza.[1]
