The Hermit (novel)

The Hermit (French title Le Solitaire) is 1973 novel and is the only novel of Romanian-French absurdist playwright Eugène Ionesco.

Summary
the novel follows an unnamed middle-aged Frenchman who has recently become wealthy due to an American uncle’s inheritance. The main character decides to quit the job he has been working at for 15 years with his new-found wealth. The story follows the main character on his every decision and thoughts after quitting his job. Between the everyday look at his life the protagonist often stops and has philosophical thoughts and this causes him to become depressed.
