Spicerhaart

Spicerhaart Group Ltd is an English estate agency and financial services company based in Colchester, Essex, and operating throughout the United Kingdom. It is the largest independent estate agency network in the UK.

History

The company has its origins in 1989,[1] where father and son Alick and Paul Smith opened three branches of Spicer McColl in East Anglia. They took over 45 Darlows branches in 2000[2] when that company went into receivership, and acquired the South Yorkshire company Haybrook in 2007.[3]

Spicerhaart purchased iSold estate agents (formerly Tesco Property Market) from Tesco plc in 2008, after it was ruled that Tesco could not act as an estate agent without being registered as such. Spicerhaart and Tesco are now involved in a legal dispute.[4]

Spicerhaart acquired Butters John Bee one of the most profitable and long established agencies in the North West as well as Brian Holt Estate Agents in 2018 which is an agency that has been established for over 75 years in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

In 2020 haart under the Spicerhaart brand announced the plans for a Partnerships scheme with a network of 250 scheduled locations over the next two years for agents to have the ability to work from home whilst being supported by local property centres. “The coronavirus pandemic has shown us just how effective and productive our teams can be working from home, making 18% more calls,” said haart Managing Director Antony Lark. “We have reviewed and assessed all types of employment models and feel that by being fully employed by us, our Partners have the best of all worlds.

“It’s far better than being self-employed as the role comes with all the associated employment benefits, along with industry-leading technology and marketing that gives incredible lead generation to support the individual to grow their business.”
