Club career

Fuwa was born in Tokyo. He played for Waseda University. He won the 1938 Emperor's Cup, along with Sekiji Sasano, Kunitaka Sueoka, Shogo Kamo, Hidetoki Takahashi, and the rest of the team. His team also won second place at the 1939 Emperor's Cup. After graduating from university, he played for Waseda WMW, which consisted of other alumni from his alma mater, Waseda University.

National team career

In 1936, when Fuwa was a Waseda University student, he was selected for the Japan national team for the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, but did not compete, as he was the team's reserve goalkeeper behind Waseda University team mate Rihei Sano.[1][2] Japan completed a come-from-behind victory against Sweden. It was the first victory in the Olympics for Japan and a historic victory over one of the powerhouses that later became known as the "Miracle of Berlin" (ベルリンの奇跡) in Japan. In 2016, this team was selected for the Japan Football Hall of Fame.
