R217 highway (Russia)

The Russian route R217, also known as the Caucasus Highway, is a trunk road that extends from Krasnodar to Chechnya and Dagestan, terminating at Russia's border with Azerbaijan. Its length is 1118 km.

Major towns along the road include Kropotkin, Nevinnomyssk, Mineralnye Vody, Pyatigorsk, Nalchik, Beslan, Grozny, Gudermes, Khasavyurt, Makhachkala, and Derbent. After crossing the Greater Caucasus, the route continues to Baku.

On November 17, 2010, in accordance with Government Resolution Number 928, the route was given a new designation, Р217 (in Latin letters R217); the M29 designation was used until 2018 when it was officially redesignated as R217.
