Portugal national handball team

The Portuguese men's national handball team is governed by the Portuguese Handball Federation and competes in international competitions such as the European Men's Handball Championship and the IHF World Men's Handball Championship. They have participated three times in the World Championship (1997, 2001, 2003), reaching an all-time best 12th place in 2003 (as hosts), and six times in the European Championship (1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2020), with a 6th place in 2020 as their best placing.

Competitive record

Portugal has competed three times at the World Championship (1997, 2001 and 2003) and six times at the European Championship (1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2020). They qualified automatically for the final tournament of the World Championship in 2003 and of the inaugural edition European Championship in 1994 as the host team. Portugal's best results are a 12th place (second round) at the World Championship in 2003, and a 6th place (second round) at the European Championship in 2020.[1]
