Geography

SGL 110 consists of one parcel located in Bethel, Tilden, Upper Bern and Upper Tulpehocken Townships in Berks County, and in Wayne and West Brunswick Townships in Schuylkill County. Portions of SGL 110 straddles Blue Mountain. The Schuylkill River bisects SGL 110 and the Little Schuylkill River meets with the Schuylkill in the Game Lands. Little Swatara Creek has its headwaters within the Game Lands. All tributaries lead to the Schuylkill River, which is part of the Delaware River watershed. Other nearby protected areas include Pennsylvania State Game Lands 80, 106, 160, 222, and 286, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Karcher Creek Park, Leaser Lake Park, and Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through SGL 110. Nearby communities include the borough of Auburn, Hamburg, Port Clinton, and populated places Aucheys, Brommerstown, Edenburg, Hamburg Heights, Jalappa, Lake Wynonah, Moyers, Roeders, Round Head, Schubert, Shartlesville, Stonemont, Stony Creek, Strausstown, Summit Station, West Hamburg, and Yoder Heights. The highway carrying Interstate 78 and U.S. Route 22 pass near the southern border of SGL 110, Pennsylvania Route 183 passes north/south between SGL 80 and SGL 110. Pennsylvania Route 61 passes north/south between SGL 106 and SGL 110.[1][2]

SGL 110 was entered into the Geographic Names Information System on 1 April 1990 as identification number 1208081, listing the elevation as 830 feet (250 m). It consists of 10,130 acres (4,100 ha) in one parcel, elevations range from 500 feet (150 m) to 1,600 feet (490 m).[3][1]

Biology

Hunting and trapping game include black bear (Ursus americanus), Coyote (Canis latrans), deer (Odocoileus virginianus), ducks, Gray fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus), red fox (Vulpes Vulpes), geese (Branta canadensis), grouse (Bonasa umbellus), mink (Neovison vison), Muskrat (Ondaatra zibethicus), opossum (Didelphis virginiana), rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus), Raccoon (Procyon lotor), squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis), and turkey (Meleagris gallopavo).[2]
