Melhupra Vero

Melhupra Vero (1934 – January 24, 2020) was an Indian politician and the first member of parliament from among the Naga people.[2] Born in the Dimapur city of the Indian state of Nagaland, Vero contested the Rajya Sabha in 1989 and won the election as an Indian National Congress candidate.[3][4] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to society.[5] On 1 October 2015, the Government of Nagaland honoured him during the International Day of Older Persons celebrations.[6]
