Medvedivtsi, Buchach Raion

Medvedivtsi (Ukrainian: Медведівці) is a village in the Buchach Raion (district) of the Ternopil Oblast (province) in western Ukraine. Vil'khovets' River flows through of the village. In the village lived 1280 inhabitants in 2001, 1297 in 2003.

History

The first written mention of Medvedivtsi is in the 17th century, when it belonged to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. From 1772 until 1918 it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Habsburg Empire, as the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. In 1918-1919 it was part of the short-lived West Ukrainian People's Republic. After 1991 it belonged to newly independent Ukraine, having previously been part of the USSR, and before WWII it was a part of Poland. Reading room of Ukrainian society Prosvita operated in the village.
