Mayabazar 2016

Mayabazar 2016 (transl. Market of illusions) is a 2020 comedy-crime Kannada language film written and directed by debutant Radhakrishna Reddy, produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar of PRK Productions,[2] M Govinda. The film starring Raj B. Shetty, Vasishta Simha, Achyuth Kumar, Prakash Raj and Chaithra Rao, is about demonetization in Kannada, and revolves around an honest police officer and a small-time conman, who end up crossing paths when they both are need of money.[3]

Plot

Kubera (Raj Shetty) a small time crook is in need of some amount to escape from police. Joseph (Achyuth) is an honest police officer, his wife (Sudharaani) suffers from cancer, but he has no money to save her. Raji is poor carpenter and falls in love with rich girl (Chaitra), is also need of money to marry her.

During the time of demonetization 2016, Joseph hatches a plan who works in IB, using Kubera, to conduct fake IT raides on the black money holders and plan succeeds. Joseph asks Kubera to stop raids, but situation becomes critical when Joseph's wife needs more treatment to cure cancer. Joseph agrees to raid one last time and Kubera raids a house gets 2 crores in old currency and found Raji in house owner's bedroom but on request of Raji, Kubera agrees not to tell anyone about Raji. Kubera argues with Joseph about raid and Raji comes to know that raid was fake, asks share in money.

Actually money belongs to a corrupt officer ACP Ashok (Prakash raj), he comes to know that raid was fake and starts investigation. Joseph tells that CBI raids eveywhere where to exchange old notes to new, and everyone is in urgent need of money, so he plans to steal in Pataki Paandu's (Saadhu kokila) house, a notorious corporator, but all plans fail. Raji leaves the group for the sake of his future child and Joseph goes back to honest living, he surrenders money to Ashok. Kubera raids Paandu house with new team and gets 15 crore new currency notes while dealing with Paandu. Ashok arrests Kubera and takes whole blackmoney himself. Kubera captures whole thing in secret camera. Finally Ashok releases Kubera and also gives share in Money. Joseph's wife gets aid from foundation for treatment. Raji marries his girlfriend, who also gets a share in money which Kubera got. Joseph serves the duty with honesty, Raji, his wife and Kubera goes to Bangkok and settle there.

‘Mayabazar 2016’ is the second venture of PRK Productions.[6] Shooting began from 24 January 2018 in Sri Kanteerava Studio. Muhurut shot was taken by Dr Shivarajakumar elder brother of Puneeth Rajakumar. Vasishta N Simha and Raj B Shetty faced the camera for the maiden shot.

Film is the joint production of Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar and M Govindu who earlier made ‘Dodmane Hudga’ starring Puneeth Rajakumar. Govindu liked the subject of debutant director Radhakrishna' story. Govindu went to seek the opinion of Puneeth Rajakumar. Puneeth Rajakumar expressed intention of jointly producing the film under his banner of PRK Productions. It was more than happy news for producer Govindu.[7]

Release

The official film trailer released on 17 February 2020 in 'PRK Audio' YouTube channel.[8]

The film was released on 28 February 2020 and distributed by productions parent company Sri Vajreshwari Combines. The satellite rights of the film was taken by Colors Kannada.[9] Film was released in USA on 6 March after successfully running in India.[10]

Movie released on online video platform Amazon Prime 3 April 2020.[11][12]
