Marion Fellows

Marion Fellows (born 5 May 1949) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. She was elected at the general election in May 2015 as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Motherwell and Wishaw.[1][2][3][4]

After attending Carrick Academy in Maybole, Fellows studied Accountancy and Finance at Heriot Watt University before studying Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) professional qualifications. For nineteen years, she taught business studies and AAT at West Lothian College; where she was an active trade unionist in the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS).[5]

She has lived with her family in Wishaw and Bellshill since the 1970s. Fellows was elected in 2012 as a North Lanarkshire Councillor for Wishaw, and was active in the "Yes Motherwell and Wishaw" campaign at the 2014 independence referendum. However, despite a nationwide victory for the "Better Together" campaign rejecting independence, North Lanarkshire was one of the four council areas (out of thirty two) which voted in favour of Scottish independence.[5]

In 2007, Fellows contested the Motherwell and Wishaw Scottish Parliament constituency against the incumbent, then-First Minister Jack McConnell,[6] and in 2010 contested the equivalent Westminster seat challenging sitting MP, Frank Roy.[7]

After being selected as the SNP candidate for Motherwell and Wishaw for the 2015 UK General Election, she defeated Roy with a majority of 11,898.[8] Fellows was re-elected as MP for the seat at the 2017 UK General Election.[9]
