List of urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh

The article lists all the urban local bodies, covering municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The statistical data is based on 2011 Census of India, conducted by The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, under Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. The state of Andhra Pradesh has a total of 120 urban local bodies. It includes, 16 municipal corporations, 6 selection, 7 special, 16 first, 30 second, 18 third grade municipalities and 27 nagar panchayats[1][2]

Municipal corporations

Municipal Corporations in Andhra Pradesh

The state of Andhra Pradesh has a total of 16 municipal corporations in 13 districts. East Godavari, Krishna and Chittoor districts has the most number of corporations with two each and all the other districts has only one. GVMC is the largest municipal corporation with greater status.[3] Out of all the corporations, 13 are district headquarters, except Rajamahendravaram, Vijayawada, Tirupati.[4]

Municipalities

The state of Andhra Pradesh has a total of 77 municipalities. The municipalities are classified into 6 selection grade, 7 special grade, 16 first grade, 30 second grade and 18 third grade. Guntur district has the most number of municipalities with 12[7].[3] Former municipalities Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam of Visakhapatnam district were merged into Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation.[8]

Nagar panchayats

The state of Andhra Pradesh has a total of 27 nagar panchayats. Prakasam district has the most number of nagar panchayats of five and Chittoor, Visakhapatnam has zero as per the latest update by government of Andhra pradesh.[3]
