List of Ressha Sentai ToQger characters

This is a list of characters from Ressha Sentai ToQger (烈車戦隊トッキュウジャー, Ressha Sentai Tokkyūjā), a Japanese tokusatsu drama in the Super Sentai Series, written by Yasuko Kobayashi.

ToQgers

The ToQgers (トッキュウジャー, Tokkyūjā) are childhood friends who have very few memories of their past and are chosen for their Imagination (イマジネーション, Imajinēshon) to stop the Shadow Line from plunging the world into darkness, possessing Rainbow Passes (レインボーパス, Reinbō Pasu) to board the Ressha. As the series progresses, they eventually learn that they are still children whose vast Imagination saved them from the fate of their families when their hometown Subarugahama (昴ヶ浜) was engulfed by darkness as Right's inner light attracted Emperor Z's attention. Though Right ends up on a Cryner as a consequence of his encounter with Emperor Z while his friends are brought into the Ressha, the President of the Rainbow Line ages the ToQgers into young adults/teenagers in order for them to best fight the Shadow Line. This may have the unintended consequence as the continued exposure to the darkness would eventually prevent them from ever turning back into children and be forgotten by everyone they knew in Subarugahama. Luckily, after Right attempted to deal with the Shadow Line on his own so his friends could resume their normal lives, the ToQgers are able to return to Subarugahama. But via a time paradox, the ToQgers help their future selves against Archduke Hei.

Using the railroad crossing-themed ToQ Changers (トッキュウチェンジャー, Tokkyū Chenjā) with the ToQ Ressha (トッキュウレッシャー, Tokkyū Resshā), a replica of a Ressha car, the ToQgers transform using the ToQ Change (トッキュウチェンジ, Tokkyū Chenji). Right also discovers that he and the other ToQgers can use Transfer Change (乗り換えチェンジ, Norikae Chenji), allowing them to switch their Ressha with each other to change their colors and associated weapons. The ToQgers are armed with the ToQ Blaster (トッキュウブラスター, Tokkyū Burasutā) that can change from Blaster Mode (ウチマスモード, Uchimasu Mōdo)[lower-alpha 1] to Sword Mode (キリマスモード, Kirimasu Mōdo).[lower-alpha 2]

The ToQgers' team finisher is the Rainbow Rush (レインボーラッシュ, Reinbō Rasshu) shot from their signature weapons combined into the Renketsu Bazooka (レンケツバズーカ, Renketsu Bazūka),[lower-alpha 3], which is powered by the Energy Ressha (エナジーレッシャー, Enajī Resshā) and its effect reflected by the shooter's imagination. After the Hyper Ressha is added to their arsenal, with ToQ 1gou usually using it due to his vast imagination, the ToQgers can use the Daikaiten Cannon (ダイカイテンキャノン, Daikaiten Kyanon)[lower-alpha 4], themed after a railway turntable, to perform the Hyper Last Train Crash (ハイパー終電クラッシュ, Haipā Shūden Kurasshu), Hyper 5 Connection Crash (ハイパー5連結クラッシュ, Haipā Gorenketsu Kurasshu), Hyper 4 Connection Crash (ハイパー4連結クラッシュ, Haipā Yonrenketsu Kurasshu) and ToQ Last Train Crash (トッキュウ終電クラッシュ, Tokkyū Shūden Kurasshu) finishers.

Right (ライト, Raito)[lower-alpha 5] is a spirited youth who is always facing and rushing forward to seize joy of life. He is the one usually giving it his all, the type to easily be fired up and go against the odds. Out of the five ToQgers, Right's Imagination is the strongest and he inspires others to believe in what he believes in, often pulling his friends along whether they like it or not. He often acts before he thinks and hates cramped places. He seems to be the only ToQger with any form of memory of their pasts. He has a habit of initiating Transfer Changes during fights without asking for permission, often annoying his friends as well as the Conductor. His full name eventually revealed to be Raito Suzuki (鈴樹 来斗, Suzuki Raito), who lives with his grandfather Tsuyoshi (剛史), mother Yumi (優美), younger sister Mai (), and younger brother Yuto (優斗, Yūto), Right later learns that he was infused with some of Emperor Z's darkness at the time Subarugahara was consumed by darkness. This revelation, which explains why he ended up on a Cryliner manned by Bag Shadow instead of the Ressha like his friends, causes Right to be consumed by the darkness and ending up being unable to return to Subarugahama as he is. However, his friends enabling him to regain his ability to imagine, Right is able to return to Subarugahama with the help from his mother.

As ToQ 1gou (トッキュウ1号, Tokkyū Ichi-gō), normally colored red, Right uses the Rail Slasher (レールスラッシャー, Rēru Surasshā), a sword themed after a railroad track, as his weapon.[1] With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 1gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 1gou (ハイパートッキュウ1号, Haipā Tokkyū Ichi-gō). While possessing Emperor Z's darkness, Right can transform into a dark-colored version of his ToQger form called Dark ToQ 1gou (闇のトッキュウ1号, Yami no Tokkyū Ichi-gō) at the cost of his Imagination. During the final battle, Right gains a multi-colored form called Rainbow ToQ 1gou (虹のトッキュウ1号, Niji no Tokkyū Ichi-gō) by using Transfer Changes with his teammates' Ressha in conjunction with the Hyper Ressha. This new form is advanced version of ToQ 1gou, but was damaged after the final battle.

Right is portrayed by Jun Shison (志尊 淳, Shison Jun).[2][3] As a child, he is portrayed by Homare Mabuchi (馬渕 誉, Mabuchi Homare).

Tokachi

Tokachi (トカッチ, Tokatchi) is a highly cautious yet clumsy and bookish character who the other ToQgers befriended when he first moved to Subarugahama. When something happens, despite being flighty and overreacting to anything, Tokachi is the type that wants to investigate and research first, but becomes very incessant when regarding results. He is a specialist at analyzing enemies and making plans, but due to his deliberate thought processes, he is unable to think on the fly and improvise. He is really bad at being on time as well. Despite being bookish, he remarks that Hikari is the smarter one in the team instead. His full name is eventually revealed to be Haru Tokashiki (渡嘉敷 晴, Tokashiki Haru), who has an older brother named Ryo (, Ryō).

As ToQ 2gou (トッキュウ2号, Tokkyū Ni-gō), normally colored blue, Tokachi uses the Form Trigger (ホームトリガー, Hōmu Torigā), a laser gun themed after a railway platform, as his weapon.[4] With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 2gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 2gou (ハイパートッキュウ2号, Haipā Tokkyū Ni-gō).

Tokachi is portrayed by Jin Hiramaki (平牧 仁, Hiramaki Jin).[2][5] As a child, he is portrayed by Keishiro Nagase (永瀬 圭志朗, Nagase Keishirō).

The character's name is taken from the Hokkaido Railway Company's Super Tokachi express train.[6]

Mio

Mio (ミオ) is a sporty, tomboyish woman who instinctively cares for others while hiding the more delicate and romantic aspects of her personality. Because of this, she is quite popular with the boys and often seen taking care of everyone else. However, she is very uncomfortable with the idea of romance. Mio acts as the team's big sister and usually the one keeping everyone in line, and has absolutely no tolerance for under-handed attacks. As a child, she owned a shumai-themed doll named Mikey (マイッキー, Maikkī) and her thoughts of the toy proved to be a buffer to her imagination until Hammer Shadow unknowingly enables her to use her full Imagination. Her full name is eventually revealed to be Mio Natsume (夏目 美緒, Natsume Mio), whose father Kohei (公平, Kōhei) is a police officer.

As ToQ 3gou (トッキュウ3号, Tokkyū San-gō), normally colored yellow, Mio uses the Shingō Hammer (シンゴウハンマー, Shingō Hanmā), themed after a railway signal, as her weapon.[7] With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 3gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 3gou (ハイパートッキュウ3号, Haipā Tokkyū San-gō).

Mio is portrayed by Riria (梨里杏).[2][8] As a child, she is portrayed by Kaoruko Ishii (石井 薫子, Ishii Kaoruko).

Hikari

Hikari (ヒカリ) is an unhurried and nonchalant man with a kendama toy on his person who only imagine things that are within reason. He is not very sociable and does not talk much, often seen lazing at a corner on his own while the rest of the team is occupied with something else. Though their imaginations and opinions differ, Hikari serves as Right's foil and his natural fighting instincts and analytical nature places him on even footing with Right when it comes to fights. While Right often pulls everyone away with his Imagination, Hikari is the one who keeps his friends on the ground. Though quite obedient to Mio, he often teases Kagura. He has a quick wit and Tokachi remarks that he is the smartest of the team, although he does not display this side of him often. His full name is eventually revealed to be Hikari Nonomura (野々村 洸, Nonomura Hikari), who lives with his grandmother Emiko (恵美子) since his mother Ayaka (彩香) is busy.

As ToQ 4gou (トッキュウ4号, Tokkyū Yon-gō), normally colored green, Hikari uses the Tunnel Axe (トンネルアックス, Tonneru Akkusu) as his weapon.[9] With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 4gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 4gou (ハイパートッキュウ4号, Haipā Tokkyū Yon-gō).

Hikari is portrayed by Ryusei Yokohama (横浜 流星, Yokohama Ryūsei).[2][10] As a child, he is portrayed by Hikaru Yamazaki (山﨑 光, Yamazaki Hikaru).

The character’s name is taken from the Hikari service on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen and San'yō Shinkansen

Kagura

Kagura (カグラ) is a girl whose Imagination is second only to Right, but often hampered due to severe self-doubt. In essence, she tells tall tales and unforeseen events usually take place. Because of this, Kagura's body can't really handle fighting well unless she uses her imagination to will herself into an unbeatable warrior. Unlike Right, her Imagination is simple and focused despite very powerful, as such capable of imagining herself to have extraordinary traits, like super strength, increased agility, or enhanced hardness. But this method of imagination is double-edged, as if Kagura ever gets overexcited, she trades self-restraint for some overwhelming yet uncontrollable trait. Her full name is eventually revealed to be Kagura Izumi (泉 神楽, Izumi Kagura), who lives with her parents Yosuke (洋介, Yōsuke) and Keiko (恵子) and baby brother Daiki (大喜).

As ToQ 5gou (トッキュウ5号, Tokkyū Go-gō), normally colored pink, Kagura uses the Tekkyō Claw (テッキョウクロー, Tekkyō Kurō), themed after a railway bridge, as her weapon.[11] With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 5gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 5gou (ハイパートッキュウ5号, Haipā Tokkyū Go-gō).

Kagura is portrayed by Ai Moritaka (森高 愛, Moritaka Ai).[12] As a child, she is portrayed by Rara Shimizu (清水 らら, Shimizu Rara).

Akira Nijino

Akira Nijino (虹野 明, Nijino Akira) is a railway worker for the Rainbow Line who was originally a member of the Shadow Line and General Schwarz's comrade named Zaram (ザラム, Zaramu).[lower-alpha 6] Possessing the power to cause rain, Zaram believed his power is capable of great evil. But upon seeing a rainbow for the first time, Zaram joined the Rainbow Line to atone for his self-deluded past sins until he finds a place worth dying for his newfound cause. Though Zaram renounced his origins, his power to cause rain lingered on. When the ToQgers come across him after learning that the Conductor had obtained equipment for a sixth ToQger, Right realizes he will be perfect for the job, even after Zaram tells him his past. When General Schwarz threatens the other ToQgers and Right is out of commission, Zaram is talked into becoming ToQ 6gou on the notion that he can finally be able to die to atone for his past sins. But Zaram survived and return the items Right before walking off. Though he refused to join the ToQgers as their sixth member, Zaram changed his mind when the team gave him his new human name, to break Ring Shadow's hold over him. But due to his strange behavior, the ToQgers never realize that Akira never truly saw himself as one of them. Later, while regaining the stolen Drill Ressha from Schwarz, Akira is forced to make a deal with the renegade Shadow Line member to join his cause. Though Akira attempts to help the ToQgers find their hometown before he must honor his part of his deal, he is recruited by General Schwarz during the holiday season and becomes their enemy. Following the death of General Schwarz, Akira returns to the ToQgers after learning that they cherish their friendship with him. During the events of ToQger Returns, his time in the Rainbow Line revealed to make him gradually human, Akira is kidnapped by Archduke Hei to be brainwashed into his servant. Luckily, the ToQgers save their friend and he promises to protect them alongside the Shadow Line.

As ToQ 6gou (トッキュウ6号, Tokkyū Roku-gō), colored orange, Akira uses the AppliChanger (アプリチェンジャー, Apurichenjā) and Build Ressha to transform, and is armed with the Yudou Breaker (ユウドウブレイカー, Yūdō Bureikā), a baton themed after a light guide stick, which can use the Drill Ressha for a powerful finisher.[13] ToQ 6gou is the only member of the ToQgers who cannot perform a Transfer Change; the Conductor and Ticket explained to the others that he is strong enough to not need it. With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 6gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 6gou (ハイパートッキュウ6号, Haipā Tokkyū Roku-gō). During the events of the Ressha Sentai ToQger DVD special, while having Ticket on his hand, Akira gains use of the Build Ressha Super ToQ Version that allows him to become the brightly colored Super ToQ 6gou (超トッキュウ6号, Chō Tokkyū Roku-gō).

Akira Nijino is portrayed by Shin Nagahama (長濱 慎, Nagahama Shin).

Conductor

The Conductor (車掌, Shashō) is an eccentric and enigmatic train conductor, possessing knowledge of the ToQgers' past, which he guards from the group.[14] During the events of Ressha Sentai ToQger Returns: Super ToQ 7gou of Dreams, he is revealed to have been promoted to commander of the Rainbow Line's railroad police force, with his current name being Former Conductor (元車掌, Moto Shashō), and became ToQ 7gou.

As ToQ 7gou (トッキュウ7号, Tokkyū Nana-gō), colored violet, the Conductor uses the AppliChanger and a Build Ressha-like ToQ Ressha to transform, and is armed with a ToQ Blaster. With the Hyper Ressha, ToQ 7gou can transform into Hyper ToQ 7gou (ハイパートッキュウ7号, Haipā Tokkyū Nana-gō).

The Conductor is portrayed by Tsutomu Sekine (関根 勤, Sekine Tsutomu).[15]

Ressha

The Ressha (烈車) is the ToQgers' headquarters that is based on the Rainbow Line, occasionally needing to be cleaned of lingering darkness that would rust it if not tended to. Though it usually answers to the Conductor, the Ressha can be used by the ToQgers to fight enlarged Shadow Creeps. Each Ressha car is modelled after a specific train model: Red Ressha (レッドレッシャー, Reddo Resshā) as a steam locomotive, Blue Ressha (ブルーレッシャー, Burū Resshā) and Green Ressha (グリーンレッシャー, Gurīn Resshā) Shinkansen-type trains, and Yellow Ressha (イエローレッシャー, Ierō Resshā) and Pink Ressha (ピンクレッシャー, Pinku Resshā) E65 type-trains.[16] The Ressha's cars can reconfigure to become ToQ-Oh (トッキュウオー, Tokkyūō). ToQ-Oh is armed with the crossing gate-themed Fumikiriken (フミキリケン)[lower-alpha 7] that it uses for its Fumikiriken - Ressha Slash (フミキリケン・烈車スラッシュ, Fumikiriken Ressha Surasshu) finisher, where the lights on the Fumikiriken flash, then a manifestation of the Ressha appear in front of the target, distracting it long enough for ToQ-Oh to cleave the target in two. The Fumikiriken can also change to Gun Mode for its Fumikiri ToQ Shot (フミキリトッキュウショット, Fumikiri Tokkyū Shotto) finisher. With SafariGaOh, ToQ-Oh can perform the ToQ Safari Double Kick (トッキュウサファリダブルキック, Tokkyū Safari Daburu Kikku) finisher.[17]

  • ToQ-Oh combine with any within series of supplementary trains called Support Ressha (サポート烈車, Sapōto Ressha) through Ressha Armaments (烈車武装, Ressha Busō): Using the CarCarrier Ressha as ToQ-Oh CarCarrier (トッキュウオーカーキャリア, Tokkyūō Kākyaria) to fire a barrage of Dash Cars in its CarCarrier Dash (カーキャリアダッシュ, Kākyaria Dasshu) finisher, ToQ-Oh Tank (トッキュウオータンク, Tokkyūō Tanku) through the Tank Ressha to perform its Tank Upper (タンクアッパー, Tanku Appā) finisher, ToQ-Oh Police (トッキュウオーポリス, Tokkyūō Porisu) with the Police Ressha to perform its Police Smash (ポリススマッシュ, Porisu Sumasshu) finisher, and ToQ-Oh Drill (トッキュウオードリル, Tokkyūō Doriru) with the Drill Ressha to perform the Drill Tornado (ドリルトルネード, Doriru Torunēdo) finisher. ToQ-Oh can also equip multiple Support Ressha, becoming ToQ-Oh CarCarrier Tank (トッキュウオーカーキャリアタンク, Tokkyūō Kākyaria Tanku) to perform its CarCarrier Tank Shoot (カーキャリアータンクシュート, Kākyariā Tanku Shūto) finisher.[18][19][20]
  • In Heisei Rider vs. Shōwa Rider: Kamen Rider Taisen feat. Super Sentai, ToQ-Oh combines with the Kyoryuger Ressha (formed from the Kyoryugers' Zyudenryu Gabutyra) and Kamen Rider Den-O's DenLiner to become ToQ-Oh Kyoryuzin feat. DenLiner (トッキュウオーキョウリュウジン feat.デンライナー, Tokkyūō Kyōryūjin Fīcharingu Denrainā) which uses Kyoryuzin's Goren Zyudenken for its Fumikiriken - Brave Sanjō Slash (フミキリケン・ブレイブ参上スラッシュ, Fumikiriken Bureibu Sanjō Surasshu) finisher. ToQ-Oh combined with the DenLiner to become ToQ-Oh DenLiner (トッキュウオーデンライナー, Tokkyūō Denrainā) before the DenLiner was exchanged for the Kyoryuger Ressha.
  • By combining with Diesel-Oh, ToQ-Oh can become Cho-ToQ-Oh (超トッキュウオー, Chō-Tokkyūō) who can fire multiple rounds from the Cho-ToQ Cannons (超トッキュウキャノン, Chō-Tokkyū Kyanon) on its arms and finish off Shadow Creeps with its Cho-ToQ-Oh - Full Burst Finish (超トッキュウオー・フルバーストフィニッシュ, Chō-Tokkyūō Furu Bāsuto Finisshu) finisher. However, as the formation wasn't possible until Right used his Imagination to enable, the formation of Cho-ToQ-Oh had an initial strain on the Ressha with the formation used as needed before the trains were retrofitted to reduce stress. Using the Ressha Armaments system, Cho-ToQ-Oh can combine with the Fire Ressha to become Cho-ToQ-Oh Fire (超トッキュウオーファイヤー, Chō-Tokkyūō Faiyā) to perform its Cho Boiling Water Splash (超熱湯スプラッシュ, Chō Nettō Supurasshu) finisher, and with the Police Ressha to become Cho-ToQ-Oh Police (超トッキュウオーポリス, Chō-Tokkyūō Porisu) to perform its Cho-ToQ-Oh - Police Cannon (超トッキュウオー・ポリスキャノン, Chō-Tokkyūō Porisu Kyanon) finisher. Cho-ToQ-Oh can also combine multiple Support Ressha, becoming Cho-ToQ-Oh Police Shield (超トッキュウオーポリスシールド, Chō-Tokkyūō Porisu Shīrudo) and Cho-ToQ-Oh Police Fire (超トッキュウオーポリスファイヤー, Chō-Tokkyūō Porisu Faiyā) to perform its Fire Smash (ファイヤースマッシュ, Faiyā Sumasshu) finisher.[21]
  • By combining with Diesel-Oh and BuildDai-Oh, ToQ-Oh becomes Cho-Cho-ToQ-Dai-Oh (超超トッキュウダイオー, Chō-Chō-Tokkyūdaiō). In this form, Cho-Cho-ToQ-Dai-Oh can fire the Cho-Cho-ToQ Super Cannon (超超トッキュウスーパーキャノン, Chō-Chō-Tokkyū Sūpā Kyanon) beams from the chest and use the lance-like Shovel Crusher (ショベルクラッシャー, Shoberu Kurasshā) for its Cho-Cho-ToQ-Dai-Oh - Imagination Express (超超トッキュウダイオー・イマジネーションエクスプレス, Chō-Chō-Tokkyūdaiō Imajinēshon Ekusupuresu) finisher.[22]

Support Ressha

  • The Shield Ressha (シールドレッシャー, Shīrudo Resshā) is a Ressha that open up into its Signal Shield (シグナルシールド, Shigunaru Shīrudo) mode to protect ToQ-Oh from enemy attacks. It can also be used to execute the Signal Shield Beam (シグナルシールドビーム, Shigunaru Shīrudo Bīmu) attack where it fires lasers from its five signal lights.[23]
  • The CarCarrier Ressha (カーキャリアレッシャー, Kākyaria Resshā) is able to carry large items on its two levels. Its main use is carrying the tiny car-like Dash Cars (ダッシュカー, Dasshu Kā) for the ToQgers to use if the Rainbow Line is ever halted due to strong Shadow Line activity. The CarCarrier Ressha is even strong enough to hold the weight of the Ressha train if the Rainbow Line's tracks break. When the CarCarrier Ressha combines with any of the Ressha combinations, its name is appended to theirs.[24]
  • The Tank Ressha (タンクレッシャー, Tanku Resshā) supplies the other Ressha with fuel. When the Tank Ressha combines with any of the Ressha combinations, its name is appended to theirs.[25]
  • The Fire Ressha (ファイヤーレッシャー, Faiyā Resshā) is modelled after the Imagination of a fire extinguisher, and has the ability to produce large quantities of water to put out massive fires. Its Fire Ladder (ファイヤーラダー, Faiyā Radā) can also be used to save people in burning buildings. While the Ressha was in repairs due to the strain of the Chou-ToQ-Oh formation, the Fire Ressha was found by Right and Kagura in the form of a giant fire extinguisher before the former reactivated it. When the Fire Ressha combines with any of the Ressha combinations, its name is appended to theirs and it arms the robot with the left Extinguisher Arm (ショウカアーム, Shōka Āmu) to put out fires, while the Fire Ladder on the right arm is used to burn Shadow Creeps.[26]
  • The Police Ressha (ポリスレッシャー, Porisu Resshā) is modelled after the Imagination of a patrol car, and is the fastest ToQ Ressha, using its Police Gun (ポリスガン, Porisu Gan) to give support fire in rescues. The ToQgers find the Police Ressha while in Kiraridai Station among the items that Sōjiki Shadow stole. When the Police Ressha combines with any of the Ressha combinations, its name is appended to theirs and it arms the robot with the Police Gun and the Police Wappā (ポリスワッパー, Porisu Wappā) used to entrap them.[27]
  • The Drill Ressha (ドリルレッシャー, Doriru Resshā) is a powerful drill-themed Support Ressha used by ToQ 6gou, originally called the Drill Cryner (ドリルクライナー, Doriru Kurainā) prior to his defection. Because it was originally part of the Shadow Line, the ToQgers can use the Drill Ressha to enter the Shadow Line railroad to infiltrate and liberate Shadow Towns. However, it is later stolen by General Schwarz for his own uses, until Akira convinces him to return it in exchange for defecting to his side when the time comes. When the Drill Ressha combines with any of the Ressha combinations, or a Cryner Robo, its name is appended to theirs and it arms the robot with its drill.[28]

Diesel Ressha

The Diesel Ressha (ディーゼルレッシャー, Dīzeru Resshā) is the oldest Ressha, running on Imagination of old diesel engines that use internal combustion. Its three cars are made of a reinforced steel alloy that can pull the other Ressha cars with ease. Its head car can fire the Diesel Missiles (ディーゼルミサイル, Dīzeruō Misairu). Because it is so old, it requires a lot of Imagination to restore, and Right with his care manages to bring it back just in time to stop the other Ressha cars from crashing into an oil refinery while they were under the control of Bakudan Shadow.[29] By combining with the Tank and CarCarrier Ressha, the Diesel Ressha can become Diesel-Oh (ディーゼルオー, Dīzeruō). By striking the ground with its right arm, it unleashes a shock wave called the Diesel-Oh Impact (ディーゼルオーインパクト, Dīzeruō Inpakuto). Its finisher is the Diesel-Oh - Spin Kick (ディーゼルオー・スピンキック, Dīzeruō Supin Kikku), a high speed drilling movement right through its target.[30]

  • Like ToQ-Oh, Diesel-Oh can use the Ressha Armaments system: combining with the Fire Ressha to become Diesel-Oh Fire (ディーゼルオーファイヤー, Dīzeruō Faiyā) to perform its Fire Splash (ファイヤースプラッシュ, Faiyā Supurasshu) finisher.[31]

Build Ressha

The Build Ressha (ビルドレッシャー, Birudo Resshā) is ToQ 6gou's personal Ressha, the strongest ToQ Ressha. However, upon receiving it, Akira remodeled the Build Ressha's cab section to function on a pulley system. The claw on the Build Ressha's front car and the Power Crane (パワークレーン, Pawā Kurēn) on one of its back cars allow it to lift and move particularly heavy objects. It can combine with its back cars to increase its ability to lift.[32] The Build Ressha can reconfigure itself into BuildDai-Oh (ビルドダイオー, Birudodaiō), becoming armed with the supersonic Shoulder Beam (ショルダービーム, Shorudā Bīmu). Its finisher is the BuildDai-Oh - Bucket Break (ビルドダイオー・バケットブレイク, Birudodaiō Baketto Bureiku).[33] When two of its front cars combine with ToQ-Oh, they form ToQ-Oh Build (トッキュウオービルド, Tokkyūō Birudo) which performs the ToQ-Oh Bucket Break (トッキュウオーバケットブレイク, Tokkyūō Baketto Bureiku) finisher.

  • Like ToQ-Oh, BuildDai-Oh can use the Ressha Armaments system: combining with the Drill Ressha to become BuildDai-Oh Drill (ビルドダイオードリル, Birudodaiō Doriru) whose finisher is the BuildDai-Oh - Shovel Drill Double Crash (ビルドダイオー・ショベルドリルダブルクラッシュ, Birudodaiō Shoberu Doriru Daburu Kurasshu), with the Tank Ressha to become BuildDai-Oh Tank (ビルドダイオータンク, Birudodaiō Tanku), or with the Police Ressha and the Fire Ressha to become Diesel-Oh Police Fire (ディーゼルオーポリスファイヤー, Dīzeruō Porisu Faiyā) who can spray Fire Defoamer (ファイヤー消泡剤, Faiyā Shōhōzai).

Safari Ressha

The Safari Ressha (サファリレッシャー, Safari Resshā) operates on the Rainbow Line's affiliate Galaxy Line which travels the stars. It is made up of five other Ressha much like the Rainbow Line's Ressha: Lion (ライオン, Raion), Eagle (イーグル, Īguru), Wildcat (ワイルドキャット, Wairudokyatto), Alligator (アリゲーター, Arigētā), and Panda (パンダ). Though it usually answers to its conductor Lady, Safari Ressha was used by the ToQgers during their fight with Count Nair. The Safari Ressha can reconfigure itself into SafariGaOh (サファリガオー, Safarigaō), which can appear in a lion mode or in a robot mode armed with the tail-themed Shippo Blade (シッポブレード, Shippo Burēdo) sword.

Hyper Ressha

The Hyper Ressha (ハイパーレッシャー, Haipā Resshā) is a giant locomotive Ressha that is the vital point of the entire Rainbow Line, serving as the headquarters of the Rainbow Line President. While rarely seen, the Hyper Ressha can transform into the Hyper Ressha Terminal (ハイパーレッシャターミナル, Haipā Ressha Tāminaru) that can hold all the Ressha for the occasional repairs and cleaning lingering darkness from the trains. Though it usually answers to the President, the Ressha can be used by Hyper ToQ 1gou to fight enlarged Shadow Creeps by having it transform into the humanoid Hyper Ressha Tei-Oh (ハイパーレッシャテイオー, Haipā Ressha Teiō). Its body is covered in Imagination, protecting it from darkness. Its Hand Launchers (ハンドランチャー, Hando Ranchā) fire beam bullets at targets from its fingertips. Its finisher is the Hyper Ressha Tei-Oh - Giant Flash (ハイパーレッシャテイオー・ジャイアントフラッシュ, Haipā Ressha Teiō Jaianto Furasshu), where it fires a powerful beam from its whole body.[34][35]

  • By holding all the thirteen Ressha, the Hyper Ressha Terminal can transform into the humanoid ToQ Rainbow (トッキュウレインボー, Tokkyū Reinbō), the ToQgers' most powerful mecha which towers most Shadow Line forces. In battle, ToQ Rainbow is equipped with the Rainbow Beam Cannons (レインボービームキャノン, Reinbō Bīmu Kyanon), which can also become the Rainbow Blades (レインボーブレード, Reinbō Burēdo), on its forearms which allows it to execute the Rainbow Slash (レインボースラッシュ, Reinbō Surasshu) attack, as well as perform the ToQ Rainbow - Final Slash (トッキュウレインボー・ファイナルスラッシュ, Tokkyū Reinbō Fainaru Surasshu) finisher.[36]

Allies

Ticket

Ticket (チケット, Chiketto) is the Conductor's monkey-like handpuppet, although he hates being called such. He has a sharp tongue and seems more straightforward than the Conductor. During the events of the Ressha Sentai ToQger DVD special, having used the Applichanger before it was given to Akira, Ticket becomes Ticket 6gou (チケット6号, Chiketto Roku-gō) as he temporary transfers himself onto Akira's hand to settle things with his nemesis Kaniros (カニロス, Kanirosu). During the events of Ressha Sentai ToQger Returns: Super ToQ 7gou of Dreams, Ticket is now worn by Wagon.[37]

Ticket is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi (山口 勝平, Yamaguchi Kappei),[15][38] who also voices the announcer on the ToQgers' equipment as well as the narrator of the show.

Wagon

Wagon (ワゴン) is a robotic assistant who sells drinks and meals to the team, as well as doing everyday maintenance chores. Though mysterious, she has a way of putting a smile on everyone's faces despite her ditzy personality. During the events of Ressha Sentai ToQger Returns: Super ToQ 7gou of Dreams, Wagon is revealed to have taken over the Conductor's duties after he becomes ToQ 7gou.[39]

Wagon is voiced by Yui Horie (堀江 由衣, Horie Yui).[15]

Lady

Lady (レディ, Redi) is the conductor of the Galaxy Line, a companion to the Rainbow Line that operates in space and uses the Safari Ressha. She calls on the Rainbow Line for help when Count Nair attacks her.

Lady is portrayed by Haruka Fukuhara (福原 遥, Fukuhara Haruka).

Passko

Passko (パス子, Pasuko) is Lady's assistant, akin to Ticket.

Passko is voiced by M·A·O.

President

Shadow Line

The Shadow Line (シャドーライン, Shadōrain) are steampunk-themed denizens of the dark who wish to consume the world in darkness. To achieve that goal, based from Castle Terminal (キャッスルターミナル, Kyassuru Tāminaru) which is the source of the Shadow line, its acting leaders send Shadow Ressha called the Cryners (クライナー, Kurainā)[lower-alpha 8] to gather the darkness in peoples' hearts by subjecting them to nightmarish scenarios to fortify the Shadow Line's railway. Each Cryner is capable of changing into a Cryner Robo (クライナーロボ, Kurainā Robo) armed with twin cannons on its forearms. Three Cryner Robos can combine into a Cho-Cryner Robo (超クライナーロボ, Chō-Kurainā Robo) armed with beam cannons on its shoulders, the Rail Gladius (レール系グラディウス, Rēru-kei Guradiusu), and the Rail Heater Shield (レール系ヒーターシールド, Rēru-kei Hītā Shīrudo). There are also unique Cryner models used by the leading Shadow Line members.

The Shadow Line's process of fortifying their railway begins with the establishment of Dark Stations (闇駅, Yami Eki) before the surrounding areas become Shadow Towns (シャドータウン, Shadō Taun) and part of the Shadow Line's world, with all memory of its existence erased. While the acting leaders originally worked to gather darkness to give their leader Emperor Z entry into the world, despite some questioning Emperor Z, the Shadow Line now acts to spread more darkness into the world to make it into a utopia for them. Though active during most of the year, the Shadow Line ceases activities during the holiday season, which they refer to as the Darkness Decline (ヤミベリ, Yamiberi) as the amount of imagination across the world weakens them during that time. During the final battle, Emperor Z infuses his darkness into Castle Terminal to transform the fortress into a monster that exists to spread its creator's vast darkness known as the Dark Behemoth (闇の巨獣, Yami no Kyojū), designated ZeI 9410-46 (ゼッイ9410-46).[40]

Barone Nero

Barone Nero (ネロ男爵, Nero-danshaku),[lower-alpha 9] designated NeI 860-1 (ネイ860-1), is the acting leader of the Shadow Line, dressed as an Italian aristocrat. He has shown to be a skilled melee fighter with his Gun Stick (銃器系ステッキ, Jūki-kei Sutekki) and he can also throw his Boomerang Top Hat (ブーメラン系トップハット, Būmeran-kei Toppu Hatto) as a chakram or use it to shoot a powerful dark energy beam. He can also use his cane as a gun like Madame Noir's umbrella. His Shadow Creeps are designated NeHa/NeShi/NeRo (ネハ/ネシ/ネロ) and serve him primarily by targeting multiple stations at once to gather enough darkness necessary to bring Emperor Z into the human world: some serve him by directly participating directly in his various schemes, such as assassinations. Though Barone Nero is dismayed to find Emperor Z obsessed with light, he remains loyal and sees his leader's fascination as a phase. After his attempt to kill Miss Glitta after suspecting Madame Noir using the wedding to usurp Emperor Z, Barone Nero is forced to watch the events unfold. But upon seeing Emperor Z absorb Miss Glitta from the inside, Barone Nero sees reasoning in his leader's madness and resolves to help him consume all light despite becoming tired of being verbally abused by Marchioness Mork. During the climax of the Darkness Decline, after helping Marchioness Mork to find Emperor Z and extinguish Miss Glitta, Barone Nero ends up being mercilessly attacked by Z-Shin. Nero later returns to Castle Terminal, aiding in protecting the fortress during the final battle in a Cho-Cryner Robo before it is destroyed by BuildDai-Oh. After being mortally wounded by ToQ 6gou in a duel, Nero sacrifices himself to heal Emperor Z's injuries.[41][42]

Madame Noir (ノア夫人, Noa-fujin),[lower-alpha 10] designated NoI 240-1 (ノイ240-1), is the secondary leader of the Shadow Line, dressed in a Victorian era French gown. She uses the Gun Parasol (銃器系パラソル, Jūki-kei Parasoru) in battle like a fencing sword or as a shield to block small shots. She can also use it to fire a small rain of energy shots or a large energy beam like Barone Nero, as well as wield it as though it were a machine gun. With the upbringing of Miss Glitta being her first priority in winning Z's favor, Madame Noir uses her NoHa/NoNi (ノハ/ノニ) designated Shadow Creeps to gather high quality darkness in order to further refine her child's beauty. In reality, feigning an interest in light after Emperor Z arrives, Madame Noir plans to use her daughter's ability to gain the power of what she consumes to take the throne. But the plan fails with Madame Noir forced to submit to Emperor Z as he absorbed her daughter and her attempt on his life in response failed. When Marchioness Mork moved into Castle Terminal, Madame Noir is forced to prove herself by using her Control Black Feathers (操り系黒羽根, Ayatsuri-kei Kurobane) to turn citizens into berserkers to gain their target with Right among her victims. But the plan fails and Madame Noir escapes using Cryner Robos as cover, learning that Miss Glitta is still alive inside Emperor Z and plots to bide her time using less capable Shadow Creeps to gather minimal amounts of darkness until the opportunity to free her daughter by releasing Boseki Shadow during the Darkness Decline presents itself. However, once her chance comes, Madame Noir is shocked to find Miss Glitta does not want to leave Emperor Z as he blasts Madame Noir out of Castle Terminal. A badly injured Madame Noir is then later found by General Schwarz and Zaram, working with the former to free Miss Glitta with an Embroidered Cloth of Medium (依り代の刺繍布, Yorishiro no Shishūfu) before she is killed by Emperor Z.[43][44]

He has recently promised Miss Glitta that he will answer her feelings in time, showing that he knows how she feels about him. However, during her "wedding" to Emperor Z, while General Schwarz seeks out the Ressha, he is saved from an attack by Cho-Cho-ToQ-Dai-Oh. Before he can respond to Miss Glitta's feelings for him, General Schwarz watches her being consumed by Emperor Z before the emperor knocks him into the depths of a nearby river. However, General Schwarz survives and vowes to take revenge against Emperor Z, tricking the ToQgers by proposing an alliance so he could steal the Drill Ressha for his agenda before learning that Miss Glitta is still alive within the emperor's body. Later confronted by Akira, General Schwarz agrees to give the ToQger back the Drill Ressha in return for his services during the Darkness Decline where Emperor Z will be at his most weakest. By the time he succeeds in freeing her, General Schwarz learns too late that he endangered her further and sends her away as he is mortally injured by Z-Shin. She constantly watches General Schwarz and clings to a Rose Handkerchief (薔薇のハンカチ, Bara no Hankachi) that he dropped and said she could keep. When Emperor Z finally arrives, Miss Glitta finds her husband-to-be frightening and has no intention to marry him as she formed a secret alliance with General Schwarz and attempted to evade the wedding with Sabão Shadow's assistance. But once the "wedding" goes underway, wearing the White Wedding Dress (純白系ウエディングドレス, Junpaku-kei Uedingu Doresu) before using her Maiden Paper Knife (乙女系ペーパーナイフ, Otome-kei Pēpā Naifu) on Z, Miss Glitta reveals she is part of her mother's plot to take the throne, devouring her husband to absorb his powers and become the Empress of Darkness (闇の女帝, Yami no Jotei). Becoming more mature of mind as Emperor Z influences her actions, Miss Glitta helps General Schwarz attack the ToQgers. However, her emotions for General Schwarz arise while he is out attempting to capture the Ressha, leading her to join him in battle. In her special Cryner, she takes a mortal blow meant for General Schwarz in his own Cryner, leading to their defeat by Cho-Cho-ToQ-Dai-Oh. As General Schwarz checks on her, Miss Glitta finally expresses her feelings for him before she is absorbed from the inside by Emperor Z for her inner light. Though assumed dead, Miss Glitta is later revealed to still be alive within Emperor Z's body while functioning as a hindrance to his full potential. During the Darkness Decline, with Emperor Z's darkness weakened, Miss Glitta begins to gradually take over his body while pleading with the ToQgers to convince General Schwarz not to proceed with his plan. However, as she fears this would happen, Miss Glitta ends up being freed and forced to watch Madame Noir die before being forced on General Schwarz's Cryner for her own safety. Intent to save Emperor Z from himself and to avert further deaths, Miss Glitta later seeks the ToQgers' help in stopping the Shadow Line by giving her cover while she takes over the controls for Castle Terminal to move it off Subarugahama and towards the dark depths. Though it seemed she was killed by Z-Shin, Glitta is later revealed to have been spared as she brings the incorporeal Emperor Z back into the Shadow Line. Glitta later returns in ToQger Returns, revealed to be the cause of a time paradox that allows the ToQgers to defeat Archduke Hei.[47][48]

But despite his nature as a being of the dark, Emperor Z has an unhealthy obsession with light as a result of coming into contact with Right after being attracted by Subarugahara's festival lights. Emperor Z has his followers work to gather the darkness in human hearts to complete the railway so he will gain a full physical presence in the human world, having them believe that he will spare those he deems too loyal and valuable to be destroyed. When he finally arrives from the World of Darkness, recognizing the ToQgers as the children who escaped Subarugahama, Emperor Z developed an interest in Right before revealing his identity and having Lamp Shadow erase the memories of the youth's friends as an experiment to test the ToQgers' light. Though he originally was unable to remain in the light for long periods of time, Emperor Z removes that weakness by having Miss Glitta swallow him during their wedding and then later absorbs her from the inside to obtain her "light". Emperor Z then dispatches General Schwarz and tells the main ToQgers he will claim their light next. However, when his caregiver Marchioness Mork moves into Castle Terminal, she tells him that his obsession with the ToQgers' light would be his downfall if he lacks the means to consume them in his darkness. But as Emperor Z learns that he could not fully absorb Miss Glitta's light he believed, only able to assume a flawed version of his true form with use of the Imperial Killer Sword (皇帝系キラーソード, Kōtei-kei Kirā Sōdo), it would later be revealed that Emperor Z's full power is kept in check by Miss Glitta's presence as he becomes increasingly moody and more of a loose cannon. During the zenith of the Darkness Decline, using up his power in fending off General Schwarz and Zaram while stealing the AppliChanger from the latter, Emperor Z briefly loses control over his body to Miss Glitta as she reveals to the ToQgers that she needs to remain inside the Emperor's body for everyone's sake. But when General Schwarz and Madame Noir succeed in freeing Miss Glitta, they unknowingly allow Emperor Z to achieve his full potential as he assumes a form reflecting the vast darkness now unleashed from his body: Z-Shin (ゼット・真, Zetto Shin). This action initially makes Emperor Z more mentally unstable than before, Miss Glitta fearing he has become a threat to both the Rainbow Line and the Shadow Line as his power creates a protective barrier around Castle Terminal. Once he claimed down, accepting he can never have the light as his own, Emperor Z learns the reason for his obsession for Right while learning that part of his being entered the youth's body. This combined with Miss Glitta's reasons for her final act against him convinces Emperor Z to mount an assault on the world and drown it in darkness while destroying any remaining light, sparing Right's lifelong enough to see the darkness spewed from the Dark Behemoth consumes everything in its path. But after the Dark Behemoth is destroyed, after being mortally wounded by the ToQgers' Rainbow Rush, Emperor Z absorbs Nero and Mork to heal his injuries while increasing Z-Shin form's power before he is defeated by Right as Rainbow ToQ 1gou using the Hyper Last Train Crash.
