Liberators: Fighting on Two Fronts in World War II

Liberators: Fighting on Two Fronts in World War II is a 1992 documentary film co-produced by Bill Miles and Nina Rosenblum featuring actors Denzel Washington, Louis Gossett Jr. and Leon Bass. Liberators is a documentary film account about the unknown story of African-American battalions, focusing on the heroic actions of the 761st, which spearheaded General Patton's Third Army and helped liberate Nazi concentration camps.[1] This documentary examines the role of African American soldiers in the liberation of concentration camps in Europe, and the segregation that they concurrently faced at home in the United States. There are extensive interviews both with soldiers and survivors about the impact of their shared historical experience. Although there has been some controversy about the historical accuracy of this film, it is a valuable contribution to the oral history of this period, particularly about segregation in the United States.[2]
