Life and career

'Local is international'. This saying about regional cinema is what drives filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly, one of the most prominent names in contemporary Indian Cinema. Based out of Kolkata, Kaushik is one of the few Bengali directors with such impact on both international, as well as the regional film circuit. Formerly, a teacher of Bengali, he quit his job and moved to filmmaking long back in the early 90s. His film ‘Arekti Premer Golpo' (Just Another Love Story) had been selected in the Panorama section at Berlinale, 2010. Not only a several times National Film Awards winner for films like Laptop, Shabdo, Chotoder Chobi, Bisorjon and Nagarkirtan, but, he is also the only South Asian filmmaker to have received the prestigious UNESCO Fellini honour for his film, Cinemawala. His films have been selected in the Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India, Goa, for 10 consecutive years. He is also a very highly acclaimed actor who has consistently proved his caliber with such strong performances in films like Kedara, Chotushkone, and Sankar Mudi, to name a few.
