History

Development of the series was first announced by Fox during the Television Critics Association' January 2020 press tour.[1] Fox ordered I Can See Your Voice to series in February 2020, casting Ken Jeong as host. Jeong also serves as a co-executive producer, alongside Craig Plestis and James McKinlay. Both Jeong and Plestis also work on Fox's American version of another South Korean format, The Masked Singer, as panelist and executive producer respectively.[2]

One episode was completed before production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fox resumed production with no audience under enhanced safety protocols in August 2020, becoming one of the network's first non-scripted series to do so.[3]

Format

This program will feature contestants attempting to tell the difference between good and bad singers without ever hearing them. In each episode, the singers will participate in multiple lip sync challenges, after which the contestant will receive help from a panel of celebrities and a "musical superstar" in deciphering clues and other evidence. At the end of an episode, the contestant will choose one of the singers to perform a duet with, at which point the singer is revealed to be good or bad, and the contestant wins a cash prize.[4]
