History

The first installation of the hyper coaster was in Busch Gardens Williamsburg and was named Apollo's Chariot. [5][6] It was one of the two models released in 1999. The other being the Floorless Coaster. It was made in a similar style to the TOGO, D. H. Morgan Manufacturing and Arrow Dynamics. Now it has become one of the more preferred models with a similar success rate to the Inverted Coaster. In 2012, B&M decided to increase the size of their hyper coaster, which previously was either: a height or drop of 200ft to 300ft. But then they increased it to above 300ft, therefore classifying it as a Giga Coaster in height but it is still one of the hyper models.

Design

The design of the Hyper Coaster includes a large lift hill then a large drop with a steep angle of descent. Until now no B&M Hypers have included inversions. Instead they include Floater and Ejector airtime hills. Only one of the B&M Hypers does not have a long out-and back layout: Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America. [7] which features more of a twister layout.

According to B&M the Hyper Coasters are a -High speed, no inversion coasters specially designed to create air time. A comfortable patented lapbar procures an incomparable feeling of freedom.-

Trains

The trains feature 7-9 cars which have 1 row with four seats making the ride have 28-36 riders per train. With an hourly capacity of 1200-1500 people. Each season's feature clamshell restraints opposed to over the shoulder restraints which makes for stronger airtime.

Other trains used on B&M Hyper Coasters use staggered seats, where the two outer seats are pushed slightly backwards. This makes for a slightly more open experience ad so every ride is exposed to a rush of air. At the moment it is featured on 4 different roller coaster Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland, Diamondback at Kings Island , Intimadator at Carowinds & Shambhala at PortAventura Park.

Layout

A train in the splashdown element.

Every B&M Hyper starts with a long lift hill, followed by a long drop with an average angle of 71°. Then the roller coaster has a number of airtime hills that feature Ejector and Floater airtime. Then, depending on the location of the Coaster, there is an over banked turn or something of its nature to change the direction of the coaster. Following this there is a turn around section utilising either a hammerhead turn or on larger scale coasters: a treble clef.

Diamondback at Kings Island is the only B&M Hyper to feature a splashdown, where the Coaster goes through a pool of water and a massive fountain is pushed out the back creating a fountain effect when the train goes through. Shambhala features a similar element, however instead of water being shot out of the back, while the coaster passes through, either side of the track small water cannons shoot up creating a sort of passage way for the roller coaster to pass through.

Brake Runs

On Giga coasters, such as Fury 325 or Orion feature very long block Brake sections instead of having mid course Brake runs. The reason of the long Brake run is to allow more than one train on the Brake run at once improving the capacity.

Having this Brake run parallel to the station makes evacuation easier. On Nitro the Brake run to hold another train is so far from the park, a minivan is required to bring guests back to the park.
