The series of games are played during the summer with the county final currently being played in Páirc Uí Rinn in July. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games.

The Cork Junior B Hurling Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Junior B Club Hurling Championship. The winners of the Cork county final join the champions of the other hurling counties to contest the provincial championship.

Killavullen are the title-holders after defeating White's Cross by 2-14 to 1-8 in the 2017 championship final.[1]
