Come, Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Ghost is a Roman Catholic prayer for guidance.[1] It is discussed in Catechism of the Catholic Church 2670–2672.[2]

The Holy Ghost Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Or in Latin:

Veni Sancte Spiritus, reple tuorum corda fidelium: et tui amoris in eis ignem accende.
Emitte Spiritum tuum, et creabuntur.
Et renovabis faciem terrae.
Oremus.
Deus, qui corda fidelium Sancti Spiritus illustratione docuisti, da nobis in eodem Spiritu recta sapere, et de eius semper consolatione gaudere. :Per Christum, Dominum nostrum. Amen.

Lutheran Use

The prayer sees regular use as a canticle in the Nordic Lutheran Church of Sweden. Though rarely sung in regular worship, it is a standard part of the opening of clerical synods and during ordinations of priests[3], usually during the final rite, the vesting, after the newly ordained priest has completed their vows.[4] In such cases it is usually sung first in the Latin original, followed by the Swedish translation.[5]
