Various parts of China under different jurisdictions have different official definitions of "cult" and thus different lists of cults.

• Piao Minghu[14] founded the World Elijah Association doomsday cult (of South Korean origin)

• Zuo Kun (左坤)[21][22][23][24][25] founded a doomsday cult, 1988

Hong Kong

• In 1985, the police successfully ″invited″ multiple Family International (TFI) members to leave.[26]
• Tung Chee-hwa claimed Falun Gong to be a cult.[27]

Macau

During the transfer of sovereignty over Macau, Falun Gong visitors were rejected. [28]
