Chhering Mutup
Naib Subedar Chhering Mutup, AC was a retired Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) who was awarded India's highest peace time military decoration Ashoka Chakra.[1]

Early life
Naib Subedar Chhering Mutup was born in Likar village of Leh district of Ladakh at the northern region of Kashmir. Due to inadequate education facilities, he was unable to go for proper education.
Military career
He joined Indian army as an infantry soldier on 23 June 1965 in Ladakh Scouts.
21 February 1985 , the Pakistani armed force taking advantage of inconspicuousness and continuous bad weather intruded and inhabited the topknot having a view of India's post at an altitude ranging near around 18000 feet. Lance Havildar Mutup was a commander of a fighting guard led by Major M.S. Dahiya which was undertaking operation to evict the enemy. During that time, L/Hav Mutup manifested the most outstanding courage hold initiative and self-possession.
Mutup retired as an honorary naib subedar on 1 July 1989.[2]
Ashoka Chakra awardee
Lance Havildar Chhering Mutup thus set the most conspicuous example for his gallantry, cool courage and devotion towards duty of an extraordinary high order. For his gallantry act, he was awarded Ashoka Chakra.
