GM announced in 2012 that it will market the car globally in developing countries and assemble it also at GM Autoworld Indonesia's Bekasi, West Java, plant.[10][11] Production in Indonesia has started in February 2013.[9] In February 2015, GM announced they will close the Bekasi plant by the end of June due to slow sales of the Spin. It was replaced in the Indonesian market by the Wuling Confero/Wuling Hongguang S1.[12]

The Spin was also produced since 2012 at the General Motors do Brasil plant in São Caetano do Sul, Brazil.

Markets

Indonesia

As of 2014, Spin for the Indonesian market consisted of 3 models depends on engine type and displacement. The three models were:[13]

  • The 1.2 L petrol engine model came with 2 trims, LS and LT, available in 5 speed manual transmission only
  • The 1.3 L turbodiesel engine model also had 2 trims, LT and LTZ, also with manual transmission only
  • The 1.5 L petrol engine: 4 trims (LS, LT, LTZ and Activ) available in manual and 6 speed automatic transmission.

The Indonesian version offered 7 seats and third row ventilation in all models.

On April 2014, General Motors Indonesia introduced a new trim in the 1.5-litre model, called Activ, only available with automatic transmission. Based on the LTZ trim, the Activ added new design elements like a larger front bumper with skid guards, 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, black plastic cladding for the lower part of the front and rear bumpers with silver skid plates, silver inserts for the side lower body and reflectors on the rear bumper, with ‘Activ’ embossed on it.[14] The car received black body paneling, and smoked headlamps were also part of the package. Inside, The full black interior color theme, was fitted with dual airbags and the steering gained audio controls.[15]

Brazil

Rear view

In Brazil, the Spin replaced the Meriva as GM do Brasil phased out the badge engineering of Opels as Chevrolets and vice versa. While the original Meriva A was developed jointly by GM do Brasil and Opel, the second generation Meriva B had been developed exclusively by Opel and marketed only as Opel and Vauxhall.

The LTZ trim of the Spin offered seven seats, and could thus also replace in Brasil the Zafira, whose global successor was split between Zafira and Orlando, both being based on the GM's global Delta II platform.

The Brazilian market received the Activ trim in November 2014; the differences from the Indonesian Activ were an exposed spare wheel and 1.8-liter EconoFlex engine capable of 108 bhp and 171 Nm of torque.[16]

Facelift

Facelift (2019)

The facelifted Spin was launched in September 2018 for the Brazilian market. The new Spin received new front fascia and rear fascia, and the addition of new safety features such as three point seatbelt and headrest for the central second row passenger and ISOFIX.[17][18]
