Bruised is an upcoming American sports film directed by Halle Berry, from a screenplay by Michelle Rosenfarb. It stars Berry, Shamier Anderson, Adan Canto and Sheila Atim.

Plot

Disgraced MMA fighter Jackie Justice has to face one of the rising stars of the MMA world and deal with the return of her 6-year-old son to the mother he deserves.

Development

In May 15, 2017, Nick Cassavetes was to direct the mixed martial arts film Bruised written by Michelle Rosenfarb and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Linda Gottlieb, and Erica Lee.[2] On September 11, 2018, Halle Berry took over directing Bruised, making it her directorial debut.[3]

Casting

In May 15, 2017, Blake Lively was cast in the film.[2] On September 11, 2018, Berry replaced Lively in the film.[3] In December 4, 2019, Shamier Anderson and Adan Canto were cast in the film.[4] In December 16, 2019, Sheila Atim was cast in the film.[5]

Filming

Principal photography began in November 2019, in New Jersey. Filming locations included the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City[6] and a boxing gym in Newark.[7] During filming, Berry suffered a minor injury, with filming being suspended for a few days.[7] Production resumed on November 27.[8] Production concluded on December 20, 2019.[9]

Music

The film's score will be composed by Terence Blanchard.[10]

Release

It will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2020.[11]
