Bielefelder Kennhuhn


Bielefelder Kennhuhn or Bielefelder is a German breed of domestic chicken. It was created in the 1970 by Gerd Roth using Amrocks (Barred Rocks), Malines, New Hampshire and Rhode Island Red. It has gained the term the "Uber Chicken" due to its many desirable characteristics.[1]

Bielefelder (Bie-le-fel-der) is dual purpose breed, although their primary is egg laying as hens produce about 230 large to extra large brown eggs a year. Meat production is a secondary purporse.[1] Male and female chicks look different directly after hatching, which makes chick sexing extremely easy. It is a so-called auto-sexing breed. They have a very docile disposition and easy to tame and kid-friendly. Recommended mating ratio is 12 females to 1 male with a roost height of a meter (2 to 4 feet).[1]
