Batman: Hush (film)
Batman: Hush is a 2019 American direct-to-video animated superhero film featuring the DC Comics superhero Batman and loosely on comic book story arc of the same name. It is the 13th installment of the DC Animated Movie Universe and the 35th overall film in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line. The film's plot follows Batman, Catwoman and their allies as they face a new villain named Hush, who knows all of Batman's secrets and targets his loved ones.

Plot
After Batman rescues an abducted child from Bane for a ransom, Lady Shiva approaches Batman to inform him of a Lazarus Pit intruder and requests him in identifying who it was. Batman agrees to do so while Catwoman steals the ransom with Batman following her. During the pursuit, Batman's grapple is shot by a masked vigilante in the distance, leading to his fall and skull cracked. He is recovered by Batgirl, who takes him back to the Batcave where Bruce’s butler Alfred contacts his childhood friend now renowned brain surgeon - Tommy Elliot to treat his skull. Alfred then gives him a new bulletproof batsuit for better protection. Meanwhile, Catwoman delivers the ransom to Poison Ivy, who has been controlling her with a hypnotic kiss. The same masked vigilante that shot Batman confronts Ivy about the ransom and gives her Kryptonite.
Amanda Waller retrieves Bane after his attempt at escaping his prison transfer from Blackgate Penitentiary. Later, Batman reluctantly teams up with Catwoman to track down Ivy to Metropolis. While there, Batman confronts Lex Luthor, now a probationary member of the Justice League after helping them defeat Cyborg Superman,[N 1] about information on a delivery list of an ethylene compound utilized by Ivy. Ivy uses Kryptonite poison to take control of Superman and orders him to kill Catwoman and Batman. Catwoman threatens to push Lois Lane down a building to free Superman from the mind control. Selina interrogates Ivy, who reveals she was hired by a mysterious vigilante calling himself "Hush".
Hush later kidnaps the Joker to persuade Harley Quinn into attacking an opera Bruce, Selina, and Tommy are attending, allowing him to murder the latter outside and frame the Joker, which angers Batman. Following the Joker's arrest and Tommy's funeral, Bruce deduces that Hush knows he is Batman. While on patrol, Hush grabs Batman’s attention and confronts him, although Hush tricks him by using mirrors. He then threatens to hurt everyone close to him, prompting Batman to reveal his identity to Catwoman. Bruce takes Selina to the Batcave, where she meets Dick Grayson and Alfred, and learns of Bruce's son Damian. The two become a crime fighting couple, but Hush later lures Dick and Selina to Tommy’s grave, where they are attacked by Scarecrow. Dick is separated from Selina, allowing Hush to kidnap her.
Shortly after, Commissioner James Gordon informs Bruce of a break in at Tommy’s office. While investigating, Batman learns that one of Tommy's patients was someone using the alias of crossword puzzle inventor Arthur Wynne, leading him to suspect the Riddler was behind the break in. While interrogating Riddler at Arkham Asylum, Batman realises that he is actually Clayface in disguise, and learns that Riddler was Hush all along, having used the Lazarus Pit to cure his inoperable brain tumor and learn Batman's secret identity. He then deduces that Arthur Wynne was just an anagram of the factory where Selina is being held captive, so he goes there and confronts the Riddler, who is growing weaker as the effects from the Lazarus Pit are wearing off. Batman frees Selina and they defeat Riddler, though Selina then kills him. She later decides to call off her relationship with Bruce due to his moral codes.
Voice cast
Penguin, Two-Face, and Mr. Freeze appear in unvoiced cameos in a montage scene of Batman and Catwoman fighting the three villains.
Production
In July 2018, an animated adaptation of Batman: Hush was announced.[2]
In March 2019, it was announced that Jason O'Mara, Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Romijn, Rainn Wilson, Sean Maher, Bruce Thomas, Vanessa Williams, and Stuart Allan would reprise their roles from previous DCAMU films with the new additions of Jennifer Morrison, Peyton R. List, Maury Sterling, Geoffrey Arend, Jason Spisak, Adam Gifford, Peyton List, and Dachie Alessio.[1]
Release
The film had its world premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 19, 2019.[3] The film was made available through digital streaming outlets on July 20, 2019. It was released on 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 6, 2019.[4]
Critical response
On Rotten Tomatoes, it has an approval rating of 88% based on reviews from 17 critics.[5]
The film earned $3,598,138 from domestic Blu-ray sales.[6]
