Barrister Babu is an Indian social drama television series that premiered 11 February 2020 on Colors TV.[1] The show is produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions and stars Aurra Bhatnagar and Pravisht Mishra.[2]

Barrister Babu revolves around child bride Bondita Das who married Anirudh Roy Choudhary in her childhood and how Anirudh fights society for her education and helps make her a barrister.[3]

Plot

Anirudh Roy Choudhary returns to his hometown Tulsipur after completing his studies in London and becoming a barrister. He is deeply concerned about the stereotypical and regressive rituals and customs that make India a backward country. Bondita Das is a curious and anxious 10 year old girl who has her own perspective of viewing the world. However, her point of view is not accepted by her family.

Anirudh's family gets angry when they learn that he wants to remove the shackles of casteism and wants to bring a change in the mindset of people for a progressive future. Anirudh and Saudamini "Mini" Bhaumik are childhood friends who are in love. Their match has always been approved by their families.

Bondita writes a letter to her would be husband stating her conditions for marriage. By chance, this letter reaches Anirudh who appreciates her thinking and outlook. Bondita's groom is a sixty year old man who dies during the wedding ritual and the village people try to force Bondita to commit sati. In a bid to protect her life, Anirudh ends up marrying her. When he brings Bondita to home, Anirudh's family oppose the marriage but he clarifies that Bondita is his responsibility, not his wife. Saudamini is hurt to learn about Anirudh's marriage and decides to separate the two, constantly playing tricks.

Anirudh decides to educate Bondita on learning that she is uneducated.

Production

The production and airing of the show was halted indefinitely in late March 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak in India.[5] Because of the outbreak, the filming of television series and films was halted on 19 March 2020 and expected to resume on 1 April 2020 but could not and the series was last broadcast on 31 March 2020 when the remaining episodes were aired.[6][7] The episodes resumed on 6 July 2020.[8]
