Production
In August 2017, it was announced Justin Simien would direct, write, and produce the film, with Oren Moverman serving as an executive producer under his Sight Unseen banner.[3]
Release
It had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2020.[4] Shortly after, Hulu acquired distribution rights to the film.[5] It is scheduled to be released on October 23, 2020.[6]
Reception
Bad Hair received mixed reviews from critics. As of July 2020, 54% of the 26 reviews compiled by Rotten Tomatoes are positive, and have an average score of 5.46 out of 10. The website's critics consensus reads: "Bad Hair's unwieldy ambitions are easy to respect -- even if the film's tonal jumble and uneven execution are impossible to ignore."[7]
