2027 AFC Asian Cup

The 2027 AFC Asian Cup will be the 19th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, the quadrennial international men's football championship of Asia organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The tournament will involve 24 national teams, including that of the host nation, assuming the current format of the finals is maintained.

Host selection

AFC confirmed that the following member associations expressed their interest to host 2027 AFC Asian Cup before the deadline.[1] The host is expected to be announced at the AFC Extraordinary Congress in 2021.

  • India – On June 5, 2019, the All India Football Federation President, Praful Patel, expressed India's interest to join the bid for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.[2] On April 5, 2020 India has submitted its bid documents for hosting the AFC Asian Cup in 2027, a top official of the national federation confirmed.[3][4][5] If selected, it will mark the first time the tournament to be hosted in India.
  • Iran – On April 29, 2020, Iran declared interests to host the competition, with Iran has hosted it twice in 1968 and 1976. If chosen, It will be the third time Iran can host.[6]
  • Qatar – On April 28, 2020, Qatar announced its interests to host the Asian Cup. It will be the third time if Qatar wins the bid.[7] Qatar hosted the Asian Cup twice in 1988 and 2011.
  • Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia has announced attention to host the competition on February 6, 2020. If this is successful, this will be the first time the Asian Cup to be hosted in Saudi Arabia.[8]
  • Uzbekistan – On September 16, 2019, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received in Tashkent the president of AFC Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa. The meeting discussed the interaction between Uzbekistan and the AFC in popularizing football, supporting youth and women's football, and also raised the issue of holding international competitions in Uzbekistan. In addition, in connection with the arrival of Sheikh Salman in Tashkent, the media in Uzbekistan reported that Uzbekistan is one of the main contenders for the adoption of the AFC Asian Cup in 2027.[9][10] If awarded, it will be the first time that Uzbekistan host the Asian Cup.
