UCSB competed as an Independent in 1963, after having been a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) for the previous 24 years. The team was led by first-year head coach "Cactus Jack" Curtice, and played home games at La Playa Stadium in Santa Barbara, California. They finished the season with a record of four wins and five losses (4–5).

4. The game against UC Davis was part of an "All-UC Doubleheader" that was held annually from 1948 to 1963. The other game of the double-header was California vs. UCLA. The games were always held at the home stadium of either Cal or UCLA.
5. The University of California, Davis sports teams were commonly called the “Cal Aggies” from 1924 until the mid 1970s.
6. The official name of Cal Poly has been California Polytechnic State University since 1947. However, it is more commonly known as either Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or just Cal Poly.
