161st Intelligence Squadron

The 161st Intelligence Squadron (161 IS) is a unit of the 184th Intelligence Wing of the Kansas Air National Guard stationed at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas. The 161st is a non-flying squadron operating the Distributed Common Ground System.

History

This squadron was Initially constituted and allotted to the Kansas Air National Guard on 1 July 1987 and received federal recognition on 12 September 1987 as the 161st Tactical Fighter Training Squadron, falling under the 184th Tactical Fighter Group at McConnell AFB as an F-16 training squadron. The 161st TFTS; later Fighter Squadron, operated the F-16A/B/C/D's until it was inactivated on 1 August 1994 as the 184th Tactical Fighter Group; later Fighter Group, became the 184th Bomb Group; later Bomb Wing, and transitioned to the B-1B.

The squadron was reactivated as the 161st Intelligence Squadron on 1 April 2008 and assigned to the 184th Intelligence Wing, McConnell Air Force Base.[1] The unit was constituted and allotted to the Kansas Air National Guard on 01 April 2008 as the 161st Intelligence Squadron, falling under Air Combat Command.[2]

On 1 July 2008, the unit was assigned to the 184th Intelligence Group, under the 184th Intelligence Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell Air Force Base.[3]

The 161st Intelligence Squadron received federal recognition effective 2 June 2010.[4]
