San Millán de la Cogolla

San Millán de la Cogolla is a village in La Rioja famous for its twin monasteries, Yuso and Suso, which were declared a World Heritage Site in 1997.

By bus

There are both public and private services to San Millán from the main bus station of Logroño.

The intercity bus service known as interurbano that goes to Estollo takes 55 minutes. It leaves Logroño at 13:00 and 18:40 during weekdays, 08:00 on Saturdays and 08:30 on Sundays and bank holidays. For the way back stops in San Millán at 08:50, 15:05 and 19:45 from Monday to Friday, 09:05 and 20:10 on Saturdays and 19:15 on Sundays and bank holidays.

The company Autobuses Jiménez has similar schedules leaving Logroño at 13:00 and 18:40 during weekdays and 08:30 during the weekends. The return bus can be catch in San Millán at 08:50, 15:05 and 19:45 during weekdays and 19:15 during weekends. The tickets costs 3.70 € each way.

By car

From Logroño you must take the Autovía A-12 heading to Burgos and leave it at the exit 21 Nájera. From there follow the signs to San Millán de la Cogolla passing by the villages Tricio, Arenzana, Badarán and Berceo. The whole trip takes about 40 minutes.

The visit to both monasteries is independent and therefore needs to be managed separately. Reservation is needed to visit the Suso Monastery by calling +34 941-373-082.

Admission €4.
