Get in
The island is connected to mainland Scotland by two ferries:
- The Caledonian MacBrayne passenger and vehicle ferry from Oban to Achnacroish
- The Argyle and Bute Counil passenger ferry from Port Appin to Point, Port Ramsay. The timetable for this is also on the Calmac website.
Get around
Getting around the Isle of Lismore can be done by local transport, bicycle or on foot. The main road is single track and approximately 10 miles long from North to South, although the road towards the southernmost end of the island is not recommended for cars. A small shop and post office is located in the middle of the island, as is a Gaelic heritage centre, gift shop, café and the Lismore Church and medieval graveslabs. Rent a bike at the Point ferry slip for the day for a relaxing way of exploring the island. There are several hiking trails and one circular from the Achnacroish ferry. There is a Land Rover shuttle service from the ferry, but check for availability before visiting. Sightseeing tours and taxi are available from this site. Do
Hike the island and take in this fantastic quaint, quiet farming island. Explore the island by bike, take a 4x4 sightseeing tour, forage for cockles and scallops along the shore at low tide, visit the Oyster farm in Port Ramsay, enjoy spectacular scenery at Sailean bay, quarry and limekilns, etc.
Buy
There are few tourist items available on Isle Lismore however you can find handmade items at the Heritage Center and at a shop in Port Ramsey. Items are made locally and are generally handmade. The quality is usually exceptional and the range is from home accessories and hand made jewelry items.
Eat
For hiking day trippers, the Post Office has a small but smart selection of foods like meats, cheeses, breads, beverages and convenience foods like chips, crackers, snacks to assist you when stopping for a quick bite on the side of the road while taking in amazing views.

The quality is outstanding and the ingredients local. Very much worth the time to seek this out which is a short hike from the Post Office.
Other options are available in Port Appin.
Drink
Bring your own refreshments in or stop by one of the small shops in Port Appin if you are hiking the island. The Post Office offers bottled beverages to purchase.
