County Wexford

Wexford County (Irish: Contae Loch Garman), in Southeast Ireland, is the country's caravan and camping capital. The county is covered in caravans along the long sandy beaches that benefit from the warmer and sunnier climate than in the north and west of Ireland.

Understand

The longest continuous beach in Ireland runs for 27 km from Kilmuckridge, a few miles south of Cahore Point, southwards to Raven Point, on the northern side of the shallow bay of Wexford Harbour.

The county is characterised by a few rolling hills, with Tara Hill (272m) in the north, while the west of the county bordering County Carlow lines the Blackstairs Mountains, where the highest peak Mount Leinster reaches 793m (2,605ft). The south is generally flat, but once you round the south east corner of Ireland at Carnsore Point, where it meets the Atlantic Ocean, there is a noticeable difference in the sea as it generally appears bluer and is considerably deeper.

Also of notable interest are the Saltee Islands off the south coast, which are an important bird sanctuary.
