Amaravathi

Amaravathi is a historic town in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh.

Not to be confused with Amaravati.

Understand

Amaravathi is a small, colourful town with an area of 11km². It has a population of 16,000. One should have a look at Amaravathi Centre and remains of Fort in Dharanikota near old college.

Get in

By plane

There are now flights to Vijayawada from Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. Vijayawada is less than a one and half hour bus ride away.

By train

There are plenty of long-distance trains available at the Vijayawada Station to get to any part of the country and Amaravathi does not have a Railway station. So, one should use Vijayawada Railway Station.

By bus

APS RTC runs bus services from Vijayawada, Guntur, Mangalagiri, Sattenapalle, Piduguralla, Narasaraopet and Hyderabad to Amaravathi Bus Station.

Parking

Parking in the town is improving. It may be easy to park two wheelers, but finding parking for cars is a bit harder. Generally parking is provided by the town government as well as the business owners.

Get around

Buses are available on all major roads. Otherwise, you can get around by taxi, personal car, auto-rickshaw or on foot. Alternatively, motorbiking/bicycle motorbiking or cycling in downtown and busy areas can often be quicker than taking the auto-rickshaw or a taxi.

  • Dhyana Buddha Statue, Dharanikota Road. 125 feet statue of Dhyana Buddha near Krishna river, located at a distance of 3km from Bus station.
  • Archeology Museum, Main Road. It preserves remains of Buddhist Architecture and remains, located at a distance of 1.5km form Bus station
  • Amareswara Temple, Main Road. Serves Lord Amareswara, has a history of about 2000 years, located at a distance of 2km form Bus station
  • Old Museum, Museum Road. Contains ruins of Mahachaithya, located at a distance of 1.5km form Bus station
  • Krishna River. It is the second largest river in South India, Amaravathi lies on Right bank of the river.
