Yeshiva University High School for Girls
Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva University High School for Girls (YUHSG, also known as "Central") offers college preparatory curricula and Jewish studies programs leading to an academic diploma endorsed by the New York State Board of Regents and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.[1] Affiliated with Yeshiva University, the school is located in Holliswood, in the New York City borough of Queens. Currently Miriam Goldberg is Chairwoman, Chaya Batya (C.B.) Neugroschl is Head of School and Beverly Segal, Associate Principal and Bracha Rutner Assistant Principal.
Values
YUHSG has as its educational mission to teach and perpetuate the Modern Orthodox Jewish philosophy of Torah U'Madda. Its goal is to prepare its students for adulthood both as knowledgeable and committed Jews and as broadly educated, intellectually curious, and caring members of the general society.
Classes
YUHSG offers a comprehensive program in college preparatory and Judaic subjects to all students. Advanced Placement offerings include English literature, English language, Jewish history, American history, government, calculus, chemistry, biology, art and psychology. Electives include basic studio art, advanced Spanish, and Arabic, physics, forensics and pre-calculus.
A newly created Science Institute offers students opportunities to do sophisticated scientific research and enhance science literacy.
Student activities
Extracurricular activities include drama, softball, soccer, basketball, tennis, hockey, Debate team, College Bowl, Torah bowl, Model United Nations and Congress, and various chesed (loving-kindness or community service) opportunities. One such example is their participation in the Adopt-A-Bubbe program where they visit various nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. Central also participates in the Salute to Israel Parade.
