The School was established on 9 April 1979, under the patronage of the Rajmata of Patiala, the late Maharani Mohinder Kaur and Maharaja Amarinder Singh of Patiala, the son of Maharajdhiraj Yadavindra Singh of Patiala.

The School is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (C.I.S.C.E.), New Delhi. The school has constantly excelled in ISC and ICSE results. It’s known for its focus on holistic development, with its emphasis on sports and co-curricular activities.

Maj Gen TPS Waraich (Retd) is the director of the school. Ms Kiran Rai is Deputy Headmistress of the school. Formerly the school has seen tremendous growth under the leadership of well known academics like Dr H.S. Dhillon, Mrs Komal Singh, Dr Koonar and others.

Yadavindra Public School, Mohali, was awarded the British Council International School Award for the period 2015-18. The school has won various awards and is considered one of the top schools in the country.

The Education World school ranking 2019-20 ranked YPS Mohali as the 14th overall best school in India in Co-ed Day-cum-Boarding School category and similarly, it ranked 14th in 2018-19.[1]

YPS Mohali changed its logo to the logo of YPS Patiala in February 2017 as they are branches of the same school.

Infrastructure

The school is spread across a wide area of over 25 acres at the border of Chandigarh and Mohali. The institute offers a varied set of facilities available to the students.

Senior Wing Building

This is the oldest section of the school. Prior to 2004, the school used only this building.

Junior School

This section opened in 2004 and houses all the primary classes from grade 1 through grade 5. Dr. Komal Kahlon was the first headmistress of this segment.

Kindergarten

The preschool section opened in 2006.

Boarding House

The school includes a separate hostel for boys and all students from classes 4-12 can avail this facility. The boarding house is equipped with air-conditioning facilities, and is a four-storey building. There are two separate boarding areas.

Dining Hall

The dining hall is large enough to accommodate over 700 students at once. It is customary in the school to dine in and the food is prepared by the school staff themselves.

Traditions

During the last week of every year, the students of the outgoing batch of class XII steal all the school bells, and hide them away securely, for a week. On the last day, the bells are brought out, and the outgoing batch parades through the school, ringing these bells with full zeal.

During this week, the school U19 hockey, football, cricket and basketball teams, play against the Old Yadavindrians.
