West Green, Georgia

West Green is an unincorporated community in Coffee County, Georgia, United States.[1] West Green is located along U.S. Route 221 northeast of Douglas and southwest of Lehigh near the Coffee-Jeff Davis County Line.

History

West Green originally was known as The Twenty (due to being 20 miles south of Hazlehurst) and later Garrant.

The Georgia General Assembly incorporated West Green as a town in 1914.[2] The town's municipal charter was repealed in 1995.[3]

Namesakes

"Cheese" is a comical song that details the origins of cheese and the process of cheesemaking, while making references to West Green, GA. It was written by South Georgia native, Brian Buffington who plays the song as a tribute to West Green native, Charles "Chuck" Williams.[4][5]
