Wang Wang and Funi

Wang Wang and Funi are two giant pandas on loan to Adelaide Zoo in Australia.[1][2][3] The pandas are on loan for ten years at a cost of $US1 million per year,[4] as part of a conservation program to protect endangered wildlife.[5]

History

Wang Wang was born on 31 August 2005 at the Wolong Giant Panda Research Centre in China. His name (Chinese: 网网) means "net" in Chinese. He weighs 119 kg. The female panda Fu Ni was born on 23 August 2006 at the Wolong Giant Panda Research Centre in China. Her name (Chinese: 福妮) in Chinese, which translates as "lucky girl". She weighs 90 kg. They were quarantined on 21 October 2009 ready for their trip to Australia[7] and relocated to Adelaide, South Australia, in November 2009. The pandas joined Earth Hour as official ambassadors in 2010.[8]
