Vasa Ostojić

Vasa Ostojić or Vasilije Ostojić (Sremski Karlovci, Archduchy of Austria, 1730 - Novi Sad, Archduchy of Austria, 1791) was a Serbian Baroque painter of icons and frescoes.[1][2] He also worked on churches in Sremski Karlovci with monk-painter Amvrosije Janković.[3][4][5][6] He was once Dimitrije Bačević's pupil and assistant.[7]

His best-known works are the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Assumption (Uspenska crkva) in Novi Sad,[8] St. Nicholas in Irig and Neradin (1760), then the iconostasis in the Orthodox church in Voganj and the iconostasis in the monastery church of Rakovac,[9] the iconostasis of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Buda, and arguably the most important one, the iconostasis in the Annunciation Church in Szentendre.[10]

Ostojić was under the influences of Russian and Ukrainian Baroque masters.[11][12] Later in life, he was ennobled for his artistic achievements.[2][13]
