Select's Gareth Grundy referred to Throbbing Pouch as a "missing link" between Aphex Twin and Mo' Wax.[4] Grundy went on to state that "Vibert creates beautiful, evocative slivers of contemporary electro that manage to be both soothing and engaging."[4] Sean Cooper of AllMusic stated that "Though the material is heavily sequenced, Luke Vibert's arranging skills are in rare form, reordering elements and dropping tracks in and out with liquid, barely noticeable aplomb."[2] In 2004's The New Rolling Stone Album Guide, critic Kembrew McLeod assessed the album as "a classic of the trip-hop canon".[3]

NME listed Throbbing Pouch as the 26th best album of 1995.[5] In 2015, Fact ranked the album at number 37 on its list of the "50 Best Trip-Hop Albums of All Time."[6]

gollark: Some meshnetworky things do it at the internet layer.
gollark: Really, if the network stack were cooler, the encryption would be done at a lower layer and not just handed off to applications.
gollark: ALL data is to be encrypted.
gollark: Well, NOT being utterly secured would be uncool, and the only simpler thing would be, I don't know, Noise?
gollark: I dislike it, however.
