The Mysterious Benedict Society (series)

The Mysterious Benedict Society is a trilogy of children's books by Trenton Lee Stewart that follows the adventures of four children. One book was published each year from 2007 to 2009. The books are the first children's novels written by Stewart follow the lives of the four children as members of their own self-named Mysterious Benedict Society, named after the eccentric Mr. Benedict who gathers them together in the first book. Although the main line of books ended with the third in the series, a prequel was released in 2012.[1]

Characters

Reynie Muldoon is an average-looking but logical boy.

George "Sticky" Washington (not to be confused with the First President of the United States) is an extraordinarily smart boy with eidetic memory.

Kate Wetherall is an athletic and adventurous girl who never goes anywhere without her red bucket of tools.

Constance Contraire is a young girl who is incredibly stubborn and can read people's minds and (later) send mental messages to people.

Plot overview

The series deals with the adventures of four young children who are each gifted in different areas, bound by one common factor: they are either orphans or unwanted by their parents. The children become involved with the strange Nicholas Benedict and his guild of assistants who are trying to stop Mr. Benedict's twin, Ledroptha Curtain, from taking over the world via brainwashing.

The children team up against the villain and his evil assistants, called the Ten Men.

Streaming TV service Hulu has announced plans for an adaptation of the series, written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, with Tony Hale cast as Misters Benedict and Curtain.[2]
