Plot

This is the story of Xiao Yanyan, also known as Xiao Chuo of the Liao Dynasty.

Xiao Yanyan (portrayed by Tiffany Tang) is the third daughter of prime minister Xiao Siwen and Princess Yan. Yanyan had two other sisters, Xiao Hunian (portrayed by Charmaine Sheh) and Wu Guili (portrayed by Lu Shan) who were in political marriages. She and Han Derang (portrayed by Shawn Dou) were childhood playmates and eventually lovers. However, because of fate, she encountered Yelu Xian (portrayed by Jing Chao) and entered the deep palace to become his queen. With her healthy tenacity and decisive courage, she made up for the shortcomings of Yelu Xian's character and health, and won his love and trust.

When Yelu Xian was critically ill, he entrusted her the government and she eventually became the most important woman in the history of Liao. She broke political boundaries, pushed the public to implement the New Deal, completed the process of the Hanization of the Liao Kingdom from the original tribe to the feudal dynasty, promoted the integration of the Khitan and the Han people, and made the Liao Kingdom prosperous and continuous. Emotionally, she pursued bravely - disregarding the widow's voice and the world's material opinions, and finally married Han Derang as the Empress Dowager, becoming a woman with perfect love, career and family in Chinese history.[4][5]
