The album achieved critical acclaim as well as success in terms of sales, going gold on its first day of release, becoming one of the fastest-ever-selling debut albums by a British artist, and going on to sell over 500,000 copies domestically. The album cover was photographed by Mary Scanlon[8] on Christopher Street in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City adjacent to St. Veronica Church.[9] The album is ranked number 993 in All-Time Top 1000 Albums (3rd. edition, 2000) [10].
