Plot
A decade ago, a visitor crashed on a primitive alien world. Calling himself an emissary of the gods, he brought knowledge, technology, order and religion. Setting himself up as their leader, this mysterious High Priest has a long term plan. But his motivations change when a familiar face arrives in a familiar blue box.

Continuity
- At the start of the story, Tegan and Nyssa have just returned from staying at the hostel in Amsterdam that was seen in Arc of Infinity. The Doctor mentions having some "loose ends" to tie up after that adventure, a reference to his solo audio story Omega.
- Florana was a planet that the Third Doctor attempted to navigate to between Invasion of the Dinosaurs and Death to the Daleks.
- The Doctor mentions The Rosemariners, another Lost Story, released a year after The Elite.
- Nyssa has encountered the Daleks in several audio stories, including The Mutant Phase, Renaissance of the Daleks, Plague of the Daleks and The Five Companions.
- Tegan encounters the Daleks in her final television story Resurrection of the Daleks.

- Barbara Clegg wrote the 1983 TV story Enlightenment. Another of her lost stories, Point of Entry, was adapted by Big Finish in 2010.
