History

Planning for Texas Stingray dates to 2017.[1] In April 2019, it was reported that a trademark was filed for a new theme park ride at SeaWorld San Antonio under the name “Abyss”. At around the same time land clearing and construction began at the park on a site across the pathway from the nearly finished attractions for 2019, Turtle Reef, Riptide Rescue, and Sea Swinger.[2] Texas Stingray was not publicly announced until September 2019,and the trains would be revealed at the IAAPA expo at a later date.[1][3][4] when it was reported that the coaster would open in spring 2020.[1] Texas Stingray officially opened for annual pass members on February 22, 2020,[5] but did not open to the general public until February 29.[6]

Description

When announced, Texas Stingray was advertised as the "tallest, fastest, [and] longest" wooden coaster in Texas. It features a maximum drop of 100 feet (30 m) and a top speed of 55 miles per hour (89 km/h). It also utilizes steel supports and is thus a hybrid coaster.[7][1] Texas Stingray is 3,379 feet (1,030 m) long.[1]
