Career

Bose started making short independent films while in school that fetched him awards at various students' film festivals and after briefly assisting the Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Sir Jeffrey Brown he started work on his maiden feature film Kash, as an actor, writer & director. The principal photography of the film began, while Souman was in his sophomore year at college & it took the film 3 years to complete, primarily for the lack of funds. After watching the 2 & a half hours long first rough cut of the film, the national award-winning sound designer Dipankar Jojo Chaki joined in as a co-producer & helped in the film's post-production. Kash is touted as Calcutta's first mumblecore feature film[1] that saw a limited theatrical release & was also invited to La Nacional Spanish Benevolent Society as a part of officially selected films of the fifth edition of Bronx World Film cycle & received rave reviews from the festival. Walter Krochmal wrote "Kash is a transcendent piece of poetic art house cinema, that clamours for a global audience".[2][3][4][5]

In 2014, Souman wrote, shot, directed, edited & produced an experimental black & white thriller Replication(Pratikriti) that won the best film prize at LKSE 2, an international film competition organised by Pocket Films. Souman has also designed ads for various corporates.

He also received favourable attention from both critics and the audience for his role as the antagonist in Addatimes finite series In Their life, where Souman was seen in another leading role, sharing screen space opposite the veteran actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty.

In 2018 he produced and acted in Rohoshyo Romancho Series, an anthology feature film. The film also features other well known actors such as Priyanka Sarkar, Rudranil Ghosh, Kanchan Mallick, Saayoni Ghosh, Biswanath Basu, amongst others. The film released on 9 August 2019 as a 5 part series on MX Player,Hoichoi & Prime Video. Souman's performance in the character of Arjun was praised by the critics & well received by the viewers. All About Bangla Cinema Org. wrote "Among the newer actors it is Souman Bose who has grabbed all the attention. This film will certainly help this talent get noticed.[6] Aritra Banerjee of Film Companion Local, while favorably reviewing the film on his channel, particularly praised Souman's acting skills & comic timing.

Souman's next leading role was as the protagonist of Bus Stop,in the anthology feature Bhalobashar Shohor 2 produced by Zee5. The film released in 2019. Bose received critical acclaim and favorable attention from the viewers for playing the character of Neel, which was loosely based on a real life person, who makes a film in order to find his lost love. In the same year,Souman Bose made a special appearance in an extended cameo in Bengal's first Zombie feature film, titled Zombiesthaan.Souman portrayed the character of Major Ram Prakash Singha,in the movie.

Souman's next release as a solo lead was Liplock produced by Addatimes & Surinder Films. In this series, he essayed a complex & challenging role of Varun who has an alter ego called Vron. In an interview, Bose cited that Liplock in the guise of a horror-thriller, is a black comedy/socio-political satire making an indirect commentary on the shallow frivolities of social media & how it’s destroying humanity & the relevant theme was his reason for accepting the role in this psychological thriller. The show was released in February 2020 & received a lot of attention.Although the series received mixed to positive reviews, Souman's consistent portrayal of the complex character received widespread appreciation.[7]
