History
Solliden with 386 inhabitants was established as a municipality in Kristians amt, when it was separated from Ringebu municipality in 1864. It was moved to Hedemarkens amt on 1 January 1891. An uninhabited part of Ringebu was moved to Sollia on 1 January 1899. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1965, Sollia, then with 356 inhabitants, was merged and became a part of the municipality of Stor-Elvdal.[2]
Name
The first element is sol which means "the Sun" and the last element is the finite form of li which means "hillside". Thus, the name means "the sunny hillside".
