Soft grunge

Soft grunge is a fashion trend that originated in 2010 as a form of 1990s appropriation. Soft grunge is a bowdlerization of early 1990s grunge culture, involving grunge fashions such as flannel and grunge from contemporary subculture and gothic ("goth") subculture.[1][2][3]

History

Soft grunge originated on Tumblr around 2010.[4]

Fashion imagery

Some hallmarks of "soft grunge" include: the usage of studs, platform sneakers, spikes, floral patterns, flannel, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, band t-shirts, chokers, Vans, Converse and black clothing.

Bands and singers associated with the soft grunge or pastel goth style are Avril Lavigne, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, and Sky Ferreira. Bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Nirvana are not considered soft grunge by most, instead falling under the more traditional grunge label.[1][5]

gollark: What? Why?
gollark: Robots should, if they're actually sapient/sophont beings, have the same rights as humans, delta biological-being-specific ones.
gollark: it already sort of has.
