The singing bush lark (Mirafra cantillans) is a species of lark found in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.[1]

Taxonomy and systematics
Alternate names for the singing bush lark include singing field-lark, singing lark and Western singing bush lark.[2]
Subspecies
Four subspecies are recognized:[3]
- Nyiro lark or Galla singing lark (M. c. marginata) - Hawker, 1898: Originally described as a separate species. Found from southern Sudan to Somalia, Kenya and north-eastern Tanzania. Some authorities formerly considered Friedmann's lark to be conspecific with the Nyiro lark.[4]
- Chad singing lark or Masai singing lark (M. c. chadensis) - Alexander, 1908: Originally described as a separate species. Found from Senegal to central Sudan and western Ethiopia
- M. c. simplex - (Heuglin, 1868): Originally described as a separate species. Found in western and southern Arabia
- M. c. cantillans - Blyth, 1845: Found in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh
Distribution and habitat
The range of the singing bush lark is extensive, with an estimated global extent of occurrence of 10,000,000 km2. Its global population is thought to be large, though it has yet to be quantified.[1]
